According to CAPCOM, their continuity doesn't reflect that of the games, and the characters they presented, although proper and good in their own right, were either "demoted" in favor of Alice or misused.
Anderson was able to get them right, I think, for Extinction by using Wesker and keeping him as this shadowy background figure who oversees Umbrella's handywork.
Jill was also dead-on, however, killing off Carlos was a no-no.....the guy's alive in the games' storyline, and is an integral part of Jill's story.
Also, I don't think the games at ANY point allude to the virus's total outbreak, to the point of humankind's seemingly total extinction(
hence the name of the movie).
Now, i understand the movies were based on an alternate timeline from the games, so maybe those details don't really matter, but to the fans, those details mean a lot.
Plus....Mulcahey ruined a cool-looking fight between Nemesis and Alice with his innovative seizure-cam....CAPCOM would love to rectify that.
In all seriousness, CAPCOM just wants in on Square-Enix's newfound moviemaking skills....and they figure by making a movie
their way, they can acheive some great stuff....
