The Vinyl Figure Awards round 48: KING GHIDORA REMATCH

Last year's King Ghidora poll was a little frustrating for me, I'll admit. The Pilot Ace Ghidora had just come out and got a lot of attention in the polls with a lot of voters singing it's praises. However, the silent majority allowed the Bandai King Ghidora to take first in the long run. Ok, maybe I wasn't that upset. The Bandai figure is not a bad toy, especially for the time it was made. But a lot of comments against the Pilot Ace had to do with it's Bullmark color style. This year Pilot Ace released the same figure in much more muted gold tones and it seems to have gotten positive feedback.

So this time there are no new contestants, just last year's top three Ghidoras pitted against each other for a second time.


Our Champions:


Bandai's classic King Ghidora, first released in 1984. This is one of many variants.

The aforementioned Pilot Ace King Ghidora, this time painted in much more accurate gold and yellow colors. This variant was released this year.

While I LOVE the MH's coloring, I'd rather vote for the color scheme that actually made it to the films. My biggest gripe with the PA is that it's a bright orange/yellow and that color just looks gross to me. The Bandai has way more flaws to it though. What is up with his massive chesticles? The heads aren't detailed enough. Something just seems off about the wings too... maybe it's the French prostitute armpits, but I can't put my finger on it.

Anyways, I went with the PA, because it's the best representation of the three with the fewest flaws.

Well, nice to see the Pilot Ace figure doing so well for itself, but wasn't last year a lot like this? I remember the Bandai figure suddenly coming from behind like nobodies business later in the week. So I'm not going to cheer just yet. The "hobby begins and ends with Bandai" fans haven't started voting yet. LOL

Wow, that is impressive. It's hard to gauge just how big it is when you see it on its own like in the picture at the top of the page. I voted for it regardless of its size, but seeing it like that makes me like it even more.
