The Vinyl Figure Awards round 43: GEZORA

Postby Legion » Sun Oct 14, 2007 11:10 am

This weeks rounds are going to have to end prematurely this week. With oral surgery scheduled for Friday I'm going to have to end these two rounds on Thursday. so basically everyone will have 4 days to vote here instead of 6. I'm assuming this won't be too big a deal since in the past a majority of votes of been in by Tuesday or Wednesday. And I highly doubt these polls will be as stressful as last week's, right Tim? :D

Revisiting Yog, Monster From Space, the 43rd round of the Vinyl Figure Awards goes to the giant squid Gezora. Like Ganime, it wasn't until recently that ol' Squidward started to be immortalized in vinyl form. Which one will take first?

Released way back in 1970, our first nominee is Bullmark's Gezora. Released in at least two colors by Bullmark themselves, this figure was later given new life by M-1, who seems determined to re-release it in as many different colors and variants as possible.

The Bandai Museum line has maintained a strong presence in this year's polls. Here is their Gezora figure, released in 2004.

The first modern vintage-style version of the kaiju, this Marusan Gezora was released in 2005.

Finally, our last nominee is this built up Marmit Iron Joe Gezora kit. It was released in this manner in 2007, though the kit itself is several years old.

As shocking at it may be, I'm voting for the Bandai Museum figure. I do like the Marmit sculpt more, but the figure looks like it was assembled by a stoned blind man. A huge shame, cause the sculpt and paint are so nice. But the Museum figure is just better overall.

I went with the Bandai Museum as well. I do like the colors on the Marmit better, but the "sleepy" eyes kinda detract from the figure, at least to my eye.

The Bandai Museum figure is pretty much a perfect representation of how Gezora looked in the movie. It's definitely got my vote. The Bullmark and Marmit Iron Joe are great though.

I voted for the Bandai Museum figure, and it appears that this time the majority of the voters won't think I'm an idiot for doing so. :P Spot-on and beautifully made.

And on a side note, the Iron Joe is pretty impressive, but those eyes are freakin' hilarious.

It is tough to vote for just one Gezora figure when there are options such as the classic stylized Bullmark original release matched up against the more realistic sculpt of the Marmit kit.

I like them both ... but in the end, I cast my vote for the Marmit (after building 10 of them, I guess that I'm biased !!)
