Godzilla gets the spotlight again in this round featuring the most popular of the Hesei Godzilla designs, with the 1989 Godzilla suit from Godzilla vs Biollante, which was resued in 1991 for Godzilla vs King Ghidora. Bandai had a stranglehold on Heisei Godzilla merchandise for almost a decade before other companies were allowed to pick up the license. Regardless, there haven't been too many figures of this popular Godzilla suit but this round includes a nice sampling.
Lets meet the nominees...
First up is Bandai's own 1991 Godzilla, released alongside Godzilla vs King Ghidora in 1991. To this day it remains one of the most popular 8" Bandai toys among collectors.
Also from Bandai is their 14" version of the 1991 Godzilla, also released to coincide with Godzilla vs King Ghidora. Does bigger mean better?
Once they were allowed to produce figures of the Heisei Godzilla characters M-1 was very quick to produce this 1989 Godzilla in 1999, alongside a final stage Biollante. Both were initially sold through the Toho Fan Club, though both toys were later reissued in other colors. The M-1 Biollante didn't make it to first place, but maybe this Godzilla will.
What would you get if you crossed Godzilla with a chipmunk? Well, you'd probably end up with something like this figure, released in 2001 by a company called Toy Pirates. Pity it.
And of course Marmit also joined the party in 2004 when they added this 1989 Godzilla to their Monster Heaven series.
