Funny that they're calling it the "Ultraseven X Project".

"Ultra N Project", anyone?

This is by no means perfect (and stole about an hour of my life), but this is my best attempt. I feel it's better than a Babelfish translation anyway...

The much-loved Ultra Seven is revived!? The production symposium for ULTRASEVEN X, which is broadcasting on TV from October, was held on September 6th in the metropolitan area, where Eriku Yoza playing the main character Jin and other people involved were interviewed.

Image

ULTRA SEVEN began broadcasting in October 1967 as Tsuburaya Productions' special effects TV program. With the 40th anniversary this year, it was celebrated with a complete new work, revived as a new TV series.

According to the Series Organizer/Director, Takeshi Yagi, "At that time there was great respect for Ultra Seven. After 40 years, how has it evolved? This is not a remake, we've developed a newly reformed Ultra Seven world; for older fans, for people watching Seven for the first time, the work was aimed to endure the appreciation of adults."

While the original Ultra Seven came from space and was a fixed star observation member, in the new work his existence is enshrouded in mystery. There are no uniforms for the members of the Ultra security force, nor does a base or Mecha appear. Assigned as an agent to DEUS, the special investigation team defending the Earth from invaders from space, the main character Jin has lost his prior memories, and without knowing who he is, he is lead to be involved in a conflict with the aliens.

However, with the good techniques of the Eye Slugger, Emeriumu ray, the Wide Shot and such alive and well, is a relation to the Ultra Seven from 40 years ago suitable? As all the episodes are carried out that is a big mystery, it is said to be the highlight.

Of course, there is 40 years of evolution in Tsuburaya's special effects. Depending on digital composition for live action and CGI to express unconventional images presents a challenge. The hand-to-hand action created with SFX is wild and stylish.

Yoza, playing the leading role, said "As a child I thought of a hero as being very strong, and I wanted to become a strong man too. I preform as the 21 century's slightly evil-ish hero." Moreover, about the training for the action scenes, "I probably look stronger than Seven. It's possible for me to have self confidence now this Sci-Fi drama is completed" he said with a smile.

Co-starring is a woman of mystery who develops a platonic relationship with Jin, Erea's role adds adds an early-era beauty (NOTE: I know this is incorrect, unsure how to translate), fighting the aliens together with Jin are Tomohito Wakizaki and Anri Ban.

It is broadcasting on TBS on October 5th (Fri) at 2.25am, on CBC on October 5th (Fri) from 2.15am, and on MBS on October 6th (Sat) from 3.25am. There are 12 episodes in all.

Awesome.

But... will there be giant-sized battles or not?!

It's an Ultra show, so I'm 99.8% positive there will be... a couple things here and there leave me having doubts, though. >>

The promotional shots hint Giant Sized Battles, but Ultra Seven was notorius for his human sized fights during the beginning of the series.

I was just about to post that...!

I'll be honest, after MAX and MEBIUS, I wasn't really expecting Tsuburaya to try something like this again. Can't wait for October 5th!

Beat ya to it!

And I agree. I LOVED Max and Mebius (pretty much what introduced me to the old-school styled Ultras, which I probably wound up loving more than Nexus, unlike some) but this just looks freakin' fantastic!

Wara wara watsu means nothing to my knowledge and you can't hear that in the promo. You CAN hear "Ware ware wa--[something]" a few times, though. Dunno what the rest of it means but "ware ware" is a form of "we" and "wa" is a particle denoting topic.

Essentially, they're talking about themselves.

The first line in the TV spot says something to the effect of "The Earth will soon be in our hands" (the "ware ware-no" being "our").
