I was in NY on business yesterday (Long Island, actually) and was looking at a map of the area. Out of boredom (I wasn't driving!), I calculated that the distance between the Statue of Liberty and the place the head landed on Broadway (in the trailer) is just under 4 miles. Impressive! Must be a very big lion, lol

Monstrous just sounds so "Sci Fi Original" to me. Oh well, the movie should still rock.

I'm actually very happy it isn't Godzilla. Some people might say I'm crazy to say that, but Godzilla isn't scary. I said it, he isn't scary, he's badass. I want a scary monster for this movie and apparently this one has claws. I honestly think this movie has adopted Cloverfield as it's title.

*edit* I never thought it would of been a Godzilla for the reason stated 500000000 times. The rights to such a thing wouldn't slip under the radar like that.

At least that settles it - it's giant monster movie told through the eyes of those actually in it.

And like I and many others guessed- Abrams drew up on Godzilla and his roots for this movie. If I'm right, and this movie depicts what it's like to be at ground zero of a massive kaiju attack("a.k.a. the U.S.'s most tragic event"), this movie's gonna kick some serious ass.

Love the poster; it's a good tease and the sight of a headless Lady Liberty is shocking. The wake in the water and the wrecked buildings lets you know this is a giant monster movie, and nothing else! As for the title, well... I really hope it's called something more original. I'd take "Cloverfield" over "Monstrous."

And as for Abrams citing Godzilla as his inspiration (as if the subtle nod in the trailer wasn't enough of a clue), it gives me confidence that this is what we've been waiting for: an all-out American-budgeted kaiju movie. A kaiju movie, not GINO, not Jackson's Kong (too small to be called a kaiju), but a hundreds-of-feet-tall, skyscraper-topplin', Statue of Liberty hatin' kaiju! I can't wait!

According to AICN (Harry, in fact), it's not called MONSTROUS. That will show up on the poster, which is the first of three teaser posters. The next posters (with new images?) will be BARBAROUS, then FEROCIOUS. I suppose we won't find out the title for certain until closer to the holidays.

He did leave a pretty subtle clue though... a reference to "Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin", which will mean something to X-Men fans -- though I'm betting on a variation of that, in the form of an adjective to match the teaser words (highlight, in case it's considered a spoiler):

I am totally stoked about this movie. I cannot wait, I will be eating up any tiny bit of information that leaks on this movie until it comes out. Why must it be January?!?! lol
