I really can not find the sense in this one. I understood getting rid of the 20 gb, dropping the $100 and even making the thing $600 to begin with. This on the other hand I can not find any reason for at all. I think this is a completely idiotic strategy. That's $100 more for 20 gb which is the absolute cheap route that MS took with the 360. So to begin with, yes, I am against the 80 gb version. I think it's a stupid idea and feel that releasing an official hard drive add-on to increase the capacity is better and cheaper. This only affects America, but still, this is just flat out moronic. The PS3 has, from what i've heard, been selling extremely well all week due to the drop... why would they want to stop the gravy train? I have no idea. I am not an exec nor trained to really grasp what ideas go into these decisions so I am sure they have a good reason for it, but at the same time I again can't make any sense of this.

I still plan on waiting because I'm sure Sony's plans aren't going to fall through then they'll have to lower it even further.

Use common sense people.

The 80GB PS3 is cheaper to manufactor than the 60GB PS3. Currently, they have over two million PS3s in stock, and they need to get rid of that quickly. Why? Keeping such a large stock in a warehouse cost money, logistics cost etc. Thus, they lower the price. When the 60GB PS3 sells out, which I think it will very soon, they'll lower the price of the 80GB PS3 to $499; thus continuing the lower price. It'll be pretty dumb to release the 80GB sku at the moment at $499, thus interferring with the emptying of the 60GB sku.

Also, an official HDD add-on? umm, you can install your own HDD into the PS3. I've done it, I updated my 20GB SKU PS3 to a 150GB SKU by purchasing my own western digital HDD.

That is indeed true. Over the last week at work we have sold 13 PS3s whereas we didn't even sell that many last month.
