This is my haul from G-Fest. I managed to finally get the Marmit Monster Heaven Gigan ^_^! I also picked up the Vinyl Paradise G 55 and Angilas I've been wanting since 1998.

Then, on the way to work I picked up this package.

The Gorosaurus does indeed look strange, but I find that any angle above its line of sight makes it look alright. Oh wellz, I'm pleased with the figured, and I'm amazed at the length of the tail (given almost every other Marmit has a stubby excuse for a tail.)

I almost picked up the Burning Godzilla exclusive at G-Fest, but I ended up being indecisive, and it was sold before I managed to fork over the cash. :([/img]

I got mostly a few odds and ends I needed from recent Bandai releases, including a replacement for my 2002 Chogokin Kiryu which I'd lost pieces for, the TDP Tokyo SOS box set which is actually pretty cool, a couple more Theater pieces I still wanted and the 1991 King Ghidorah in almost new condition.

But the real treats were when Scott Horton caught my attention and convinced me to buy the original Bandai classic 1962 Godzilla plastic tag. He said it was never removed from the bag, which I'll take with a grain of salt because the purple tape was missing from the end, but it was a great deal. The bag is in really good shape, the tag and the Godzilla were perfect (though the rubber band dried up and fell apart, sticking to both which washed off perfectly later) and the real treat was that it had the original paper insert which has legal information (I assume) and a cashier's computer number.

It would have been cool to get it with the original tape holding the bag shut, but I wanted one to display anyway so I have taken it out. Now I need to find a similar rubber band to hold the tag back on the arm.

I later picked up the plastic tag Mechagodzilla. The same seller had a Forever Glitter Godzilla which I'm kind of pissed I didn't bring enough cash to get it afterall but I had to because it would have cleaned me out completely otherwise. The Mechagodzilla's tag is in great shape with a few unremarkable rubs on one side and the figure is okay, though I might try to replace it in the future because I believe additional holes were made in the back of the head for the tag holder while I'm certain the original hole was in the middle of the body. Not a problem because I wouldn't mind having one of the greats to display without the tag in my dorm anyway. I love the Showa MG and this is a great toy.

So instead of getting a bunch of new stuff I really don't need I ended up with what are now two of my favorite toys.

I'd like to try to find at least one other plastic tag Bandai before the summer is over, and a guy I talk to about getting toys from Japan finally found the King Scale Mechagodzilla '93 in the box - he says it's mint/near mint, but will find out Thursday when he gets it - and he's going to offer it to me first, for less than $300, which surprised me.

This has turned out to be a really great summer for G toys for me afterall.

Tim

Edit: On Jean's Vinylmaddness list, Mike Johnson made the comment that he believes my Bandai '62 may have been bought by Scott out of Jim Chapin's collection, which would be very special in itself to have a toy from what was one of the greatest toy collectors in the hobby.

It was really great to meet new friends & catch up with old ones. Too bad more folks didn't show up to the MZ meet & greet but it was at the same time as the opening session so I guess I'm not surprised.

Before I get to my G-Fest haul, here's a few items that came in while I was out of town.

Marusan Megalon - This is a retro-style figure with good paint and high quality thick vinyl. It normally comes with a mini Jet Jaguar which I didn't get, but the price was right so it's okay.

I also got in a couple customized minis: Gargamel Hedoran & M1 glow Namegon:

So here's my G-Fest haul:

Wow, the Kraken does look cool, but the lego type look is kinda pushing me away. Are there any other Kraken figures out or coming out?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I love coming home on a Monday to new Godzilla toys. It always makes the beginning of the work week worthwhile. It's an interesting mix this time and for once there's some new Bandais in the bunch.

First up are the new Hyper Hobby exclusive Bandai figures. For anyone who has forgotten about them, these toys are tied in to the Godzilla Island television series that aired in Japan a decade ago that was only recently released on DVD. The figures include two Jet Jaguars and a 1975 Mechagodzilla. One Jet Jagaur is made of red vinyl with black eyes while the other is made from white vinyl, has black eyes and a red cross on it's chest. From what I remember the red Jet Jagaur is a "fire fighter" version, and the white one apparently is a "ambulance" version. Mechagodzilla meanwhile, is made of black vinyl - similar to the 2005 Memorial Box version - but is left unpainted aside from having painted orange eyes. Since I've never seen the Godzilla Island series I don't really know the significance of these versions and, to be honest, these exclusives are really for Bandai completists only. There's really nothing special about them, and a minimal effort was put into making them. It's nice to get something new out of Bandai, but these are just lame.
Image
Below is a picture of the tags, which are gatefold and in black and white. The photos on the tags are actually of modified 8" Bandai toys, which were used in the production of the show.

And here's a comparison picture of the Hyper Hobby figure on the lright, with the Memorial Box figure on the left.

Now here's something interesting. Released by M-1, this is a Bullmark style Gigan that was given out as a prize at a "HOOP" game at a Children's Museum event on june 3rd. Apparently only about 20-50 of these were actually made. It was advertised as being a glow vinyl but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be. I'm not sure if I'm going to take this out of it's bag just yet.

Speaking of Gigan...
I knew I was going to like Gigabrain's new Godzilla vs Megalon style Gigan. But I didn't think I was going to like it this much. I'm actually floored by how cool this figure is. Gigabrain just nailed the look of the 1973 Gigan suit, capturing all the little details that made it different from the original 1972 Gigan costume. The more upright posture, the less threatening-looking face and beak, the thicker mandibles...it's all there. Even the skin detail on the arms and legs is just perfect. There's even articulation in two places on each arm, similar to the Bandai Final Wars Gigans. That's a terrific touch I didn't expect. If Gigabrain was trying to top Marmit's Monster Heaven Gigan I honestly think they may have done so, at least in my eyes. Clearly, the Marmit figure was Gigabrain's inspiration.
Of course this is not the standard Gigabrain Gigan. That hasn't been released yet. This is the Superfest version which is cast in what I think is black vinyl, although I can't help but notice a deep magenta hue in there somewhere. Additionally, I love the metallic blue paint they used on the body scales. If this figure is an indication, the standard version is going to be fantastic. I could go on and on, but I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, though this is one of those toys you really have to see in person to appreciate.
