Ok, this sounds very juvenile and high-school, which is exactly why I want an opinion of those who aren't high-school.
I'm 18, I'm a senior in high school, I'll be attending The Everghreen State College in the fall.
I dated a girl for 5 months last year from January to June. The reason we broke up is because she was going to be an exchange student in the Philippines. We have since "gotten over" eachother, and I have a girlfriend now, and we're really happy. The girl (the ex) and I are still friends, and we're cool.
She has known my best friend for about 7 or 8 years now. They liked eachother off and on at points, but never told eachother. And, when they finally admitted their feelings, they were already dating other people.
She comes back in May, and my best friend has asked her to our Prom.

It will be my girlfriend and I, and my best friend and the ex. My girlfriend, aside from her biased freaking-out, doesn't think this is right, and she says anyone will agree with her, based on the rules of dating, blah blah blah. But my best friend and I are totally fine with it.

So, I'm asking you guys. Does my girlfriend have a valid point, or should we just throw the "rules" out the window and let life be life?

So long as you're cool with it, there's not an issue. I guess your girlfriend is thinking of him being heartless to go with your ex? If you're fine with it, then it's all clear. "The rules of dating" set the matter withing your jurisdiction.

Well, this is a matter that can only be decided between you and her. I can see why she'd feel ...maybe the word is "weird" about it.

As long as your cool with it then it's no big deal, I personally wouldn't date one of my friend's ex's.

Rules of dating..

I've certainly never run into them.. Other than the rules I've made up for Myself. (and even then they're more like guidelines than actual Rules)

My Opinion: If you don't have a problem with your ex dating your friend, your current should Shush.
