I found it amazing that they managed to copy the designs of both the Sontarans and the androids from Earthshock.

Pretty good start to the new series. The Judoon were neat looking critters, and the bit with the Doctor and his tie was neat. I also liked how you don't actually see an effect for the hospital being transported to the Moon, but you see it from Martha's perspective.

As for Miss Jones herself, I think Freema Agyeman should prove to be a good companion. In this episode alone, she challenges the Doctor about his 'title', but is still curious enough to hop aboard the TARDIS - unlike Rose, she's not looking for an escape from her everyday life.

All in all, a solid start to the series, but I have a strong feeling the best is still to come...

Just watched The Shakespeare Code - excellent stuff from Gareth Roberts, I think he's definitely a writer to get the services of for the fourth series. Great villians in the Carrionites - Christina Cole in particular does a good turn as Lilith, who is eeevil but slightly disturbingly sexy.

Dean Lennox Kelly shines as the Bard, playing him as a sort-of sixteenth century rock star (especially as he takes a bow at the end of Love's Labour's Lost), and indeed the script plays off a lot of Shakespeare's future works (and for the hardcore Who fans, a nod or two to past stories).

Brilliant climax, nice music from Murray Gold (there's definitely a Shakespeare Code suite that could go on a future soundtrack) and at the very end, quite possibly, there might be the seeds of a future 'celebrity historical' story!

Two episodes in, not too bad so far. I'm far more cautious this series, though. A part of Series 2 seemed to devolve into rather silly territory, causing me to tune out for much of it.

Being a Troughton fan I about jumped out of my pants at the reveal on the mystery monsters. Unfortunely I felt they were underutilized and really neutered to what they were originally like and what they represented, and that was a bit of a let down, but it was otherwise a really good episode.

Really? It's been AGES since I listened to an audio of that story, and "they" never impressed me much. I'll have to see if I have the BBC CD when I get home a relisten to it.

Loved Brannigan and his "kids"! :)

I'm stuck in Vegas at a tradeshow this week, but I think I'll watch it again. And I haven't done that yet this season!

As for next week, the preview did not excite me much, and I hate the Radio Times for ruining what should have been a complete surprise. OTOH, the surpise kind of looks dumb, so I should probably be thankful!

Yeah, I didn't like it. Weren't the Daleks already half human thanks to the Emperor Dalek? How is doing that again thinking creatively? This just feels like a waste of the Cult.

Mmm. I have to agree. Daleks in Manhattan wasn't great. Which is a shame, because I suspect that if you removed the Daleks altogether and replaced them with a new monster, it might stand up a little better.

What I'd like to know is where are these 'Art Deco Daleks' that have been mentioned around the Web? One thing I read about them was that they were silver and blue, like the very first Daleks in the classic series.

Incidentally, I think Dalek Sec's idea of creating a half-human half-Dalek hybrid may have been purely coincidental. We don't really know when the Cult created the Voidship and escaped the Time War (indeed, if they ever took part) with the Genesis Ark.

In fact, I'm surprised that the Cult didn't just exterminate the hybrid Sec more or less straight after he emerged.
