I called lakeshore entertainment today (and yesterday if you can believe it) to see if I could dig up some info on Godzilla 1985. I spoke with their international dept. which deals in foreign films and the lady informed me that they never had a godzilla title in their library ever. I asked her again if she was absolutely positive as I was inquiring about an older Japanese film that was produced back in the mid eighties and she did a search on it and low and behold, it did pop up in their system. She told me the rights to Godzilla 1985 expired in the 90's. Apparently she believes the rights have reverted back to Toho.

I don't know what to make of this because CM and other sources claim the film is still licensed to Lakeshore. Seems a bit fishy to me... Someone is either lying or is just flat out ignorant.

Anyways, maybe if we can piece all the pieces of the puzzle together if we work together and make a few phone calls. That's what it's going to take if you want to find out any info regarding a possible DVD release for any of the 3 remaining films.

Perhaps the best thing to do is to call someone at Monsters HD and see who gave them print materials and television rights to broadcast Godzilla 1985. That should at least lead us to someone who has recently owned Godzilla 1985/Return of Godzilla.

If that doesn't work, it might be worth calling up Anchor Bay. They released it at least once on VHS, so they might know who they sold it to or if their rights reverted back to Toho.

^That looks like it will work. I'm up for it.
