Actually, this is a very old purchase, I just decided to get off my ass and put it together.

Image

It came out fairly well in my opinion. The flash kinda highlighted the errors, but they aren't so visible normally. Kind of a pain trimming the thing. I think I'm gonna really try to pursue model making. I've got a custom job on its way from Bill Jones and another in the lineup. Although I think his work is worth every penny (I can't wait to post pics when it arrives! AWESOME!), I'd really like to be able to do some of this stuff myself. Maybe I'll pick up a couple cheap West Kenji items off eBay or something. Anyway, I actually kinda had fun with this last night. Just happy it's no longer sitting in the box.

Thats a really cool Gezora. I wanted the glow one with the jeweled eyes and the rainbow splotches on it's head, but I was unable to get one.

I'm still waiting on the second Megahouse Toho collection, as well as the Bandai Jet Jaguar.

Finally, it feels like forever since I've gotten some great Godzilla swag...

First up is the Bandai Jet Jaguar - it feels like I'm the last person around here to get one of these. I'm glad I was wrong about Bandai just reusing the old '93 Jet Jaguar mold. This one is leagues ahead as far as sculpt goes. Great paint too. I'd prefer an action pose but since so little is coming out of Bandai lately I'll take what I can get.

Also got the second Megahouse Godzilla collection. I'll admit they're really nice, though putting the smokestacks on the building on the Godzilla '55 piece was a royal pain. If I had to pick a favorite, I'd go with the Mogera set, especially the fully painted version. As a complete set however, I prefer the bronze versions. Makes me want to go back and pick up the first set.

Finally got my big box of vinyl goodness today. And what a box it was, featuring toys of all sizes, from all walks of life, from some very different films and in a rainbow of colors. And not a Bandai in the bunch.

First up was last years standard Hedora figure. Its obvious to anyone who saw the film that this is the earlier stage version of the monster, when it first faced Godzilla on the docks. I dont know why I put this figure off as long as I did, because I think it has a fantastic sculpt and a nifty, semi-accurate paintjob. If only the Banda Hedoras eyes could have looked more like this.
Image
And heres the 1971 Godzilla facing off against him.
Image

Next up is the long, long, loooong delayed Marmit Final Wars Rodan. When was this announced, the very end of last July? Wow, over a half year. This is also the first brand new Toho sculpt from Marmit since late last year. It's passable, but nothing special. I think the color scheme needs to be a bit more subtle, but I do really like the sculpt. It's also nice and big, with a wingspan over a foot long. No more Final Wars figures have been announced as this point, and in general there hasnt been a newly sculpted Toho figure announced since Gorosaurus last fall. I'm starting to worry.
Image
Here's how it looks alongside the Bandai FW Rodan
Image

Now these two toys are really lucky to be in my collection. For toys like these to be in my collection they have to meet three bits of criteria. If it's a Marusan toy, it has to be really, really good. If it's a glowie, the colors really have to catch my eye. And if it's Gamera, it has to be something different for a change. These two toys fulfill all the requirements. Welcome to my collection, Marusan glowie flying Gamera and Gyaos! (I prefer the Gyaos, but don't tell Gamera)
Image

And here's my very first Toy Graph purchase. Hey look, it's another glowie. This toy is just so different from anything else I own that I had to pick it up. The little vintage Marusan-style figures are absolutely priceless. But why Hedora is in there is anyone's guess. It should have been Gorosaurus up there on that tower.
Image

I can't get into a lot of X-Plus' Gamera stuff. I can't get into a lot of Gamera stuff anymore, period. Unless, of course, it's something from the Showa era. It's great to see super detailed versions of lesser Gamera foes like Viras, Jiger and Zigra. This particular figure is absolutely fantastic. The price was cheap, but the size and quality your getting is phenominal. The X-Plus US Godzilla figures only wished they looked this good. A shame the fully painted X-Plus Zigra and Viras figures seen to be so hard to get.
Image
And I used to think the Bandai 1993 figure was the best Jiger ever put out. The X-Plus version blows it out of the water.
Image

And who here has seen "Daigoro vs Goliath"? No? Don't worry, I havent either. It's some strange movie - made by Tsuburaya but released by Toho - about a constipated baby monster named Daigoro whose mother is killed by an evil monster named Goliath. Apparently Daigoro is nursed to health by someone and in the end wages war with Goliath. Aside from some vintage figures, I don't believe toys were ever made of these guys. So that's where Antlier (can I get a spelling on that) came in. First off, I was surprised at how big these figures are. They're about Bandai 8" scale, but Goliath is really beefy, with a hunchback, huge arms and an extremely long tail. There's actually a lot I could say about these figures, but I'll show a picture first...
Image
Honestly, they look better in person than in photos. I'll admit first off that despite the extreme attention to detail and all-around great sculpt, the vinyl quality is pretty cheap. In fact, Daigoro can barely stand up. But there's a lot I like about these toys. They both have plastic "doll" eyes - nothing in my collection has eyes like that - and Daigoro has clear plastic "wiskers". Even more amazing is a tiny little set of lights inside Goliath that make his horn, eyes and even the interior of his mouth glow. At least I guess that's what the lights are for. When I got the figure the light was rattling around inside the figure's body. It actually looks really cool.

That Purple Jet Jaguar is AWESOME!!!

Anyway on to my recent aquisitions...

Often referred to as the most common "Gateway" toy into Japanese Toy collecting the Bandai Ultra-Kaiju are a lot of things, but respected is not often one of them.

I, however, love the things. They are like crack to me. Easily gotten, cheap, and so much fun to handle. Plus they look colorful and great on any shelf. Especially with many of their fellow brethren on hand.

They also tend to come in 2 varieties...

The Funk and The Legends.

This is most evident in my recent twin purchase of King Joe and Tyrant.

King Joe is of course the Legend...

Image

Remembered as the powerful robot adversary from one of the rare 2-part episodes of Ultra 7. This character has captured the hearts of kaiju fans for many years. He first appeared in America by way of Popy and Mattel when he was brought over from Japan as part of Godzilla's Gang in the 1970's.

He has been made in Toyform in japan in every style and design imaginable. Of course he was famouse for having 2 versions in the Arklon line of diecast (once again appearing on American shores). He was one of the very few Kaiju to get the Chogokin popy treatment and he will be returning as a modern Soul of Chogokin figure in April.

But, what is his appeal?

I think its the fact that he is a Kaiju designed to look like a giant, toy, robot myself. He looks like a 50's and 60's tin wind-up or battery powered robot come to life and grown to giant size.

He was also a combining robot, which was a rarity to be sure in live action televisoon of the 1960's. Though he didn't really split into anything very recognizable, he did split.

The Bandai vinyl is molded in nice metallic gold and painted in silver, black, and has a cool metalic rainbow thing going on in his chest area. :D

He is a nice break from the usual organic Ultrakiaju.

Now here we have Tyrant...The Funkmeister!

Image

One of the evil Yapool's army of Cyborg Kaiju from Ultraman Ace. Tyrant is molded in green, sprayed in silver, and has the most lethal set of appendages I've ever seen on ANY Kaiju. His right hand is an ax, his left hand is a spiked mace. Plus he has horns and spikes everywhere.

Much like Gigan of the Godzilla series, this Kaiju was nothing created by nature. Every part of this cool design gives the impression that this is a conquering war-machine designed to kill and only kill. Add to that the Chrysler symbol that was festooned upon the belly of all the Yapool kaiju and the copious silver paint and Tyrant delivers the FUNK!

I got the villainous Giant Yapool...

Image

The evil creator of Tyrant and a regular thorn in the side of Ultraman Ace through the entire run of his series.

This version of Yapool is acually the most recent one that appeared in the series Ultraman Moebius, before gaining a HYPER MUTATED FORM that would appear in the film Ultraman Mebius and the 5 Ultra Brothers.

Here is a video tribute to the Evil King Kaiju known as Yapool...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Oq4dQcyZv8

This is my absolute favorite kind of the Kaiju, the REAL HEAD TRIPPERS. It was with great satisfaction that I opened him out of the mailer package and my roomate proclaimed...

"What head-tripping Shroom-Head designed that thing?!?"

This is how I guage when I have a real winner. :D

The only complaint I have is that I wanted him to come with his groovie septor like he is carrying around in those clips from Ultraman Ace.

The Emporer is in. :)

I just got this from a seller off the bay. It's a bootleg 17 inch Tall Great Mazinga made of Polyetheline with a Vinyl head.

Image

I had a choice between it, the original Mazinga Z, and Grandizer. Apparently this company uses the same body mold with a different chest piece and head for all 3 characters.

I picked Great Mazinga as a throwback to my childhood. That and I HATE Grandizer. Is it as cool as the original Jumbo? Absolutely not. For one thing its so light a stiff breeze could blow it out of your hand. But, it does make up for that by being much closer in scale to Godzilla and I would imagine he probably would look pretty good next to the Mazinga Jumbo villains (I'll never know).

He came in a bag and a GREAT BIG header card. I like BIg toys and for a boot, this one is pretty sweet.
