Again, another possibility. What if Chinese filmmakers or Korean filmmakers took a stab at big G? A French adaptation would also work.....might.
In my view, anyway, I look at the state of the media used to create movies and the budgets they put forth. Japan has yet to make a movie visually equaling the US's. Submersion of Japan comes close, but that's because it's a movie all of Japan would take notice of, and breaking even is by all means assured.
It would take two studios at least, to deliver both a powerful movie, a proper adaptation of the source, and a visually stunning masterpiece, combining both worlds....Like what Clint Eastwood did with "Flags of our Fathers" and "Red Sun, Red Earth".
