Ok, I didn't bother to mention it - it felt "wrong" to interrupt the off-topicness earlier, but that's subsided - but a couple of days ago my MH Gigan arrived.

The unpainted green figure's still a few weeks away, but the green Gallery version arrived very quickly. Getting charged $3 shipping yet receiving it in only a couple of days was a very nice surprise. Anywho, the figure itself.

As my first Marmit experience, I was slightly surprised by the thicker, heavier vinyl. This stuff could easily survive a drop on a hard surface, though I will never risk that! It's not unlike the harder plastic that Bandai once used on its older figures - I don't have 80s vintage stuff to compare, but several older Ultraman Gaia kaiju made from the stuff, and they do feel more similar than comparing the Marmit vinyl to a modern squishy Bandai.

With Marmit, Size Does Matter. Half of what makes Gigan so impressive is that he's got height on his side. This is a kaiju that begs to have brethren in-scale with him, because keeping him among 6" figures is useless. Eight-inch Bandais probably aren't a bad fit, but it's been a year since I've owned one, and the style is clearly different.

Monster Heaven Gigan has the same Marusan/Bullmark influence as similar figures (like Marmit's other stuff) but with increased emphasis on accuracy. Gigan looks slightly "vintage" but doesn't have the exaggerated appearance of predecessors. Also, the Gallery version has no bizarre sprays, but relies on proper colors and a detailed sculpt. The only thing intentionally missing is paint on the underside of Gigan's claws, a move I don't understand but does not bring down my love for the figure either.

Rather than try to present an accurate suit like a Bandai Movie Monster would do, Monster Heaven Gigan captures something closer to an ideal character accuracy, at least that's the best way I can express it. He brings nothing new to the table in terms of poseability or design, but this is an intriguing sculpt with a beautiful coat of paint (the green vinyl is good enough on its own, but the body of the figure is coated with a metallic sheen) that will, perhaps forever, be held on a pedestal as THE Gigan figure in my collection!

I still need all three DX Mechagodzilla box sets. All I need left now is the 1992 Mothra Larva (I decided to upgrade from the beat-up version I had) and I'm good to move on to 1993 Bandai's.

Oh yeah...I completely forgot about all of the '91 figures...I still need the Perf. Tag Ghidorah and all three with non-perfs. :)

Thats alot of MG! The regular DX MG is really bad ass looking. What exactly does he do? does he bend this and that way like any of the diecast figures?

I remember back in 1997 while i was at the G-Con in New York city some kid had a 93 MechaGodzilla that bended like a diecast figure..legs, arms,,head and everything it was really cool.

Nope it's not really all that articulated. The mouth opens, the arms move at the shoulders, elbows and wrists and that's pretty much about it. The legs and ankles rock back and forth a little bit but are in no way posable. The eyes light up and the toy roars when you pass a magnetic badge in front of it. I'm not installing batteries in it though. There's no point. quote]

You are no fun.

G-16 was never at the precise 6" scale but was slightly larger and, as you noticed, closer to standard scale. The same was true with Orga.

The Memorial Box version of the figure was rescaled down to 6".

if it's stamped 2002, it's not the G-16. It sounds like a bootleg to me, there's tons of 'em on ebay & it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't bother to scratch out the copyright info before casting copies.

EDIT: does it look like this?

Yes, it does match up with the one on ebay, except the paint scheme is exactly the same as G-16(not as light green like the ebay one). When I bought it, it had no tag, but it looks exactly like the G-16 with some very slight fin variations and larger (about 10").
One foot has stamped...TM&2002, TOHO CO. LTD,(GODZILLA in Japanese), 2003.
The other foot has Bandai 2002,made in China, 11855.

I am learning about bootlegs, cause it sure looks good and authentic, minus the tag. and they even left the stamps on the feet! Although I noticed the paint chips off the fins very easy. I bought the G-16 at the same time and they looked so similar, except the size.

Yeah, it's definatley an illegal.

It has the Bandai info on the foot becuase it is the same mold as the GXM Godzilla toy. But it's not a legitimate product. There is no doubt.
