I'm not really bothered by whatever treatment they give the alternate versions of the films that they include on the dvds be they US or international just as long as they keep giving us the uncut, uncropped Japanese language originals with English subtitles, but even so it does seem a little strange that they included the edited US version for this release and that they don't even know that there is an international version of Megalon. I mean surely they can't have been watching the censored American cut for all these years down in Australia too right?

Very odd. :P

Australia did get the uncut international version. I have it here on video somewhere. Madman do excellent DVD releases, so I was kind of dissapointed when I saw that they used the cut American version.

My DVDs arrived today. :) I might check out Godzilla vs Destroyah a bit later, if I do I'll post my impressions of it for you afterwards Damascinos.

OK, I just finished watching Godzilla vs Destroyah and overall I'm very happy with this DVD. I'd definitely recommend you pick it up Damascinos, as I would anyone who doesn't already own a copy of GvsD, or perhaps wants to upgrade from the Sony R1 version.

The picture quality is really good, pretty much as good as you could ask for (and of course it's anamorphic and presented in the correct aspect ratio), and the subtitles are different to the dialogue being spoken on the English dub track so it seems as though they are true subs and not dubtitles, which is always good. :D

The Japanese 5.1 audio track did sound kinda funny though, I noticed that during scenes with a lot of dialogue the voices sounded a bit weird, but it's possible that may have been a problem on my end and not with the disc itself. Either way the original mono track is excellent so there's no real problem there (it's not like anyone was ever expecting this to be a reference-quality demo disc for their surround sound setups anyway  ).

On the extras side it's got the original teasers, theatrical trailer and TV spots as well as the image gallery of concept artwork and production photos from the Toho disc along with a couple of trivia pages containing little factoids about the film, plus the original Japanese trailers (with English subtitles) for Tokyo SOS, Ebirah: Horror of the Deep and Invasion of the Astro Monsters, which Madman also has DVDs of.

All in all I was very pleased with this release and would give it a big thumbs up :Big-th-up:

Oh yeah and the film also includes the original Japanese rolling credits which were cut from the US version.

Which is nice. :D

Does the Destroyah DVD have the original poster on the inside cover, like on the Showa movies?
