I just got in the mail a Marmit Vinyl Paradise Gubira. I finally got a figure of one of my favorite Ultraman foes, sweet!

Why can't any average-sized Gubira toy give the character justice? The only proper-looking ones are either gashapon/candy toys, or higher-end models. Like this:

But I don't mean to rain on your parade, Ricky, especially since I never heard of a VP Gubira. It's just a poor way to treat an underdog fan-fave like him.

Yeah I know what you mean, the Gashaphon/candy toy Gubiras really are the best. I think the VP Gubira is decent, I prefer it vastly over the Bandai version, which had legs that I thought were a tad bit too long, but that's just me. Compared to other VP figures, I think Gubira is one of their more decent efforts.

From l to r: the small Bullmark Angilas, the standard I've had for a few years, the standard I just got and the Hawaiian Angilas. I really need a Hawaiian spray Angilas now.

Bullmarks and Marusans are funny. They were all hand painted, so you could basically get a large number of slightly different color variations depending on how the person painting them felt that day. Also, over time, paint can fade depending on how the toy was cared for, or not cared for in most cases. I've seen plenty of Bandai's with slightly different paint jobs, like a lot of silver on the chest of one, and hardly any on another, but I certainly wouldn't call them variants. I bet it would be pretty tough to find two Bullmarks with "exactly" the same paint job.

Here are two more examples of what we're talking about.

Here are two standard King Ghidoras. I definitely like the one on the right. Plus I love how you can see the directions the paint can was moved in as this toy was sprayed.

And here are two Bullmark Gabaras. They look similar enough - but the difference is that the one on the left has a Marusan stamp. The one on the right is a later issue and has a corrected Bullmark stamp.

Although it was very delayed and I wasn't sure it would ever get released, I just got the Iwakura Mechani-Kong too. There've been very few Mechani-Kong figures, and this one's excellent:

They are very expensive, but they're also fully assembled and painted so not a direct comparison to models. And of course they're very limited since (as I understand it) Iwakura didn't have an official license to make these.

I almost bought the Forever Series MKG at G-Fest for $250 from Lea Chapin, but I decided to save my money for what I thought was going to be the 1996 Memorial Box, which eventually fell through because her actual price was considerably higher than the quote she gave me at G-Fest.

I wish I'd gotten it; she sold it by the end of the weekend.

:o what a drag...i dunno about that memorial box set...it looks nice and all..but i havent really looked into it that much. different paint schemes and all. they dont seem that drastic. i am much happier with the Forever Series...that was a mission to complete but it took me less than a year to get all 6...and the Glitter Godzilla is just amazing! I dont know if i would let the memorial box pass me up tho...if i got the cash and the price is right...maybe one day i will have it. i have seen pieces of it on ebay and their are a couple on their now and all the tags as well. but i dont wanna buy a broken up set.

Yeah, I definately would have gone through with what she asked for the Memorial Box, but I had to quit work to go to school. If I had kept working I would have gotten it; it was still a very low price for the item. But it was much more than she told me initially that she thought she might have been able to provide, and at the behest of a few other collectors at G-Fest who were doing the right thing and telling me to go for the Memorial Box over anything else I let the Forever Series MKG go.

I wish I got it...such a beautiful toy.

I think the Memorial Box is worth it, even if they are just repaints they still look damn good. I think the SpaceGodzilla and the '62 Godzilla look considerably better.

:(
