Yub Nub English translation:

Freedom, we got freedom,

and now that we can be free, c'mon and celebrate.

Power, we got power

and now that we can be free, c'mon and celebrate.

Celebrate the freedom

Celebrate the power

Celebrate the glory.

celebrate the love

Power, we got power, and now that we can be free,

it's time to celebrate.

Celebrate the light (Freedom!)

celebrate the might (Power!)

celebrate the fight (Glory!)

celebrate the love

Glory, we found glory

The power showed us the light

and now we all live free

celebrate the love.

I'm really torn on this release. On the one hand, i absolutely do NOT support the special edition in any way shape or form. I hate the thing. On the other hand, from what's being reported on originaltrilogy.com, these are the best copies of the OT we've gotten yet (despite the fact that they are still very much subpar quality). So i just don't know whether to get these or stick with my laserdiscs. I'm as big a Star Wars fan as i am Godzilla (if not even more so), but Lucas[film] has just ticked me off to no end with the treatment of these legendary films over the last decade. The original versions deserve SO much better!! Why can't we get a QUALITY dual version release like such greats as the Aliens boxset, E.T., the Godzilla films Classic Media is giving us (& to a lesser extent, the dual language ones from Sony), the upcoming Bladerunner & Superman 2 releases... The list goes on & on! It's a crime that the movies that literally changed the face of cinema in the late 70's can't get the respect they deserve. Not once have i said that George can't have his director's cuts (by all means, he can do more than have them, if you catch my drift...) but why must the originals be suppressed, denied, insulted? Granted, i never expected to get even this much, so it is worth something, but still....

So now the debate goes on... to buy or not to buy? Granted, this is the first time EVER that the original (well, more like cobbled together to resemble the original) STAR WARS (sans "Episode IV: A New Hope") has ever been released in any format other than theatrically. So i'll probably at least get that. Plus, my birthday is in october... Perhaps i can make my way to Celebration 4 & personally deliver disc 1 from each package to a high ranking lucasfilm employee & explain precisely why i bought the movies, which versions i watch, and that i will never purchase any other copies unless they are better quality copies of the UNaltered Original Trilogy.

BUY BUY BUY

Yes, they don't look as good as they could, but they ARE better than the '93 laserdiscs or the THX Widescreen videos. They're probably the best we'll ever see them again, since Lucas seems to be totally disowning them once and for all with this release, so you might as well go for it....

Not to mention the fact that the 2004 DVD versions have too many technical blunders to forgive. The colors are all wrong (when did everything turn blue?) The sabers are totally screwed up do to the rushed cleanup by Lowry & poor color correction. The sound mix is all messed up (the force theme is suspiciously quiet during the opening dive towards the Death Star in the Battle of Yavin, & the rear surround channels on A New Hope are backwards!! Creative decision my butt!!)

For referenec to the color problems i mention, check out the official comparisons on the official site! ( http://starwars.com/episode-iv/release/ ... index.html ) i can't believe they were willing to put up side by side comparisons! For the blue issue check out image #113. In the original the schematic on the wall is white. In the 2004 version it's frickin baby blue! There's also comparisons for ESB ( http://starwars.com/episode-v/release/v ... index.html ) and ROTJ ( http://starwars.com/episode-vi/release/ ... index.html )

As for the saber screw ups (notice those slide shows were curiously devoid of almost any shots with ignited lightsabers??), sound alterations, & comparisons between all three versions of the OT (original, '97, & '04)check out these pages:
ANH: http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/arti ... t-one.html
ESB: http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/arti ... s-part-two
ROTJ: http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/arti ... part-three

edited for spelling & to fix a link.

Edit 2 I also wanted to point out to pay particular attention to the starfields in the official slideshow comparison. It seems they've "cleaned" those up too (i.e. - they've completely erased the STARS in STAR WARS!! Argh!!!)

Now I'm truly glad that I've not gotten the films before and still I don't plan to.

This question has to really be asked: What type of drugs George Lucas is on here man.

Well, after forever I finally got the three Original Trilogy DVDs for DIRT CHEAP! The picture isn't cleaned up all spick and span like the SE, but it didn't bother me. I had a huuuuge wave of nastalgia. It had been forever since I'd seen the trilogy. When I was around 8 years old, from 96-97 my world was Satr Wars. I had toys, books, magiazines, ect.

And the films are just as good as I remember them (great when that happens).

Strange that I still get excited over things about the original trilogy(this deleted scene, upcoming Empire book) and totally ignore ANYTHING new(new comedy series, etc)
