GFantis comic in G-Fan

Postby Nippon » Tue Apr 18, 2006 8:39 pm

After reading the posts in the G-Fan issue 75 thread, I wanted to start a thread with the topic of the comic itself.
I personally have found the concept of a G-Fan mascot kaiju to be a very cool concept, and many of the stories, characters and kaiju thusfar have been quite entertaining, in my opinion. Even the "photo-comic" style used has its charm at times.
Of course, I noticed that many of you dislike the comic, so I wanted to ask:
If the comic were made in a different format (like straight-up comic art), would it be more enjoyable? Or, should the comic just be cut from the magazine?

I love G-Fantis. I think it's very cool, though I haven't gotten G-Fan in while. I don't care about the photoshop thing or whatever I just think it's fun.

Wow. Everyone really seems to hate it!

Having looked at the issue at Tower Records, while it isn't the best, the concept isn't bad. I happen to really like photo comics (fumettis) a lot myself. If people really want better examples of photo comics, try Hobby Japan or the ultra-rare Godzilla Super Museum (whatever it's called).

Gfantis? I bloody HATE it. I love the mag. and it sucks that it's now a quarterly, but Gfantis is nothing if not irritating!!! Guess there's not much to fill up an issue with now that the movie series is in hibernation.

The kaiju itself, besides suffering from a lame name, is a shoddy ripoff of J D's favorite: Titanosaurus, with some Anguirus and King Ghidora horn-age lopped on for some klunky "menace".

So aside from flat plots, uninteresting enemies, horrid story art and photo comics, 2 dimenstional characters and amature writing... yes, the star kaiju itself offends and embarasses me.

It looks like something Napoleon Dynamite would scribble on notebook paper during algebra.

I'm happy to report that the most recent issue of G-Fan DOESN'T have this lame comic. Do you think JD is learning that nobody likes it?

Damm! I thought G-Fantis himself was an awesome creature. It just depends on who draws him and his stories in my opinion. I'm actually doing a G-Fantis vs Mecha G-Fantis drawing for this year's competition, it looks sweet!
