Saw it at G-Fest and thought it was fantastic! Its a kid's movie, yeah, but not so much so that adults can't enjoy it (cough*MOTHRA 2*cough). Zedus was awesome, Toto was cute, the miniatures were great, and the kid actors did a great job. My only complaints are the change in Gamera's roar, and I would have liked to see him look a little more grown up at the end, but I realize he was only like a week old by the end of the movie, so I understand he's still a baby. I also didn't quite like how he was changed from a turtle to a tortoise (they say he's a turtle in the movie, but he's never anywhere near water, so its obvious) Also, big props for the cool Guiron reference when baby Toto is in the kitchen. Unlike a lot of people, I actually liked the relay race scene. It had a touching feel to it.
Of course, its not as good as Kaneko's trilogy, but it was still great fun. I liked it better than most of the Showa series. Can't wait to own this one.
And the transfer at the Pickwick was perfect and crystal clear.
