Yeah, i saw that on the news this morning. To be honest, I thought it was the daftest idea I'd ever heard. But since it's Tom Baker's voice, that automatically makes it cool. :)
I agree about Shatner as well.

Watched "Horror of Fang Rock". Didn't notice when I got the DVD a few months ago, but the Doctor refers to HG Wells by his first name, giving the impression that they're firends.

...I like that. :)

And good news for guys who wanna buy Doctor Who DVDs. Suncoast has lowered their prices of the DW DVDs that are a few years old from $24.99 to $19.99. I noticed it while on the suncoast website, but didn't think much of it 'cause their website prices are often different from their store prices, but when I ordered "Remembrence of the Daleks" it was only $20.

Good news for a penny pincher like me. I had some spending money I was gonna use for three Doctor Who DVDs and now I can get four!

And that's what we like to call a dynamic personal victory.

Wow, you can really tell that the folks behind the set visit the fan forums. I've heard the 'animated' recreation concept for lost episodes [video really since all the audio is available] tossed around several times in the last couple years on Outpost Gallifrey, even the Return of the Master Boxed set is word for word from many a fan's wishlist. Pretty cool - it's always nice to see that the 'creators'/'content deliverers' [whichever fits best] are in touch with the fans/primary consumers.

In a poll published in the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine, The Deadly Assassin ranks seventeenth in the Most Wanted for DVD Release category, with Kinda in joint seventeenth with it. Here's the full list:

3 - Logopolis
4 - The Seeds of Doom
5 - The Daemons
6 - The Invasion
7 - The Sea Devils
= - Survival
9 - The Time Warrior
10 - Genesis of the Daleks (this poll must have been done at the beginning of the year)
11 - Castrovalva
12 - Terror of the Zygons
13 - The Chirstmas Invasion
14 - Doctor Who and the Silurians
15 - The Greatest Show in the Galaxy
16 - The War Machines
17 - The Deadly Assassin

I do know that another two titles due for release this year by 2|entertain are The Hand of Fear (jumping on the return of Sarah Jane, no doubt) and the Colin Baker story The Mark of the Rani.

I don't think I can wait for the North American release of this puppy!!!

On Saturday, we find out what the Cybermen are planning in Doomsday. On Monday, Rise of the Cybermen comes out on DVD. And, in November, their 60s classic The Invasion comes out on DVD (complete with Re-Animations of the missing episodes).

Tottenham Court Road tube hasn't escaped either, with a special animated Cyberman display currently on the escalators. Resistance has never been more useless.

My VHS must be upgraded!

Got my DVD of "Inferno." It's a freakin' great. It's certainly the best 3rd Doctor story I've seen. The strength of this and "Spearhead from Space" really make me want to see the other two stories of that season.

Oh, and my response to the most wanted list:

-The War Games Definetely, this one would be great to have

- The Trial of a Time Lord ehhhhh... I'd skip this one

- The Seeds of Doom This is one of those everyone says is great and I haven't seen it, so yeah, definetely love this on DVD.

- The Sea Devils Pretty good story, I'd probably get it

- Survival Love this one. A must buy when it comes out.

- The Time Warrior Same as Sea Devils

- Terror of the Zygons Absoultely love this story.

- Doctor Who and the Silurians As I stated in my first paragraph, would like to see this one.

- The Greatest Show in the Galaxy I've heard good things, and I really like McCoy's last two seasons

- The War Machines Not a favorite. I'd rather get the couple of Hartnel releases out already that I don't have.

- The Deadly Assassin My all time favorite episode, of course I want it!

- Kinda Haven't seen it, heard good things

- Destiny of the Daleks I'd skip this

- Day of the Daleks I really liked this one, I'd pick it up

Heads up for anyone wanting to pick up the DVDs for Classic Doctor Who and haven't yet.

I was at the Sam's Club near me last Friday and saw that they received a shipment of Doctor Who DVDs and had them on their DVD end cap - all selling for around $9.84. Off the top of my head I remember seeing, The Five Doctors, The Aztecs, Pyramids of Mars, Ressurection of the Daleks, The Caves of Androzani, and many more.

So if you're looking to add to or start a Classic Doctor Who DVD collection check out your local Sam's Clubs today.

So I'm working this morning and one of my workmates walks in and on my desk. He says he got himself one and got one for me too because he thought it would be something I'd like.

Yes indeed I do, but holy crap! That's quite a present to just give to a workmate.

I'm flabbergasted and just had to share (and show off).

Wow ;D

Since Genesis of the Daleks has come out on DVD, has there been any word on when Revenge of the Cybermen will make it to disc?

All exisiting copies were rounded up in 2001 and summarily destroyed, so "Revenge of the Cybermen" will never be released. Rightfully so.

Just kidding. I recently re-watched my old VHS (the first DW VHS ever!), and I find it oh-so-wretched. Even David Collings can't save it.

But, no, no word. The UK has "The Invasion" coming up on DVD in a few weeks (11/6), with the missing episodes "restored" by animation, which should be big fun! We should get that here in the States early next year. Also, coming out the same day with "The Invasion", "Tomb of the Cybermen" and "Earthshock".

Other releases in the UK coming soon: "The Master Returns" box with "Keeper of Traken", "Logopolis" and "Castrovalva"; and "The Sontaran Experiment". We should see those early next year too. And releases should be stepping up in volume beginning next year, as they're going to go lighter on the extras, and reserve that extra work (and delay) for more popular stories. But with the Tom Baker-heavy schedule, I suspect "Revenge" is still some time off.

So what's with the animation thing? I've seen the restorations where they take the existing audio and edit production stills together to re-enact the episodes. Is it the same sort of thing or actual animation?

Hey now, I like Revenge quite a bit! It was my first experience with the Cybermen and have fond memories of it. Some parts more than others. I think it makes a good story arc to have The Sontaran Experiment, Genesis and Revenge all grouped together.

EDITE: I've answered my own question, finding on the animation. At the bottom is a link to a 10 or 15 second preview. Not bad!

Oh and speaking of Peter Davison era (since you mentioned Castrovalva), I like Peter quite a lot but am one of the legions of Adric-haters. Thus making Earthshock one of my favorite Cyberman episodes.

Doctor Who Magazine are running a competition for readers to win a place at a fan commentary for a forthcoming Doctor Who release by 2|entertain. It's been revealed that the title will be a Sylvester McCoy story.

I would've loved to enter, only aside from the ones I have on DVD, the only other Seventh Doctor stories I've seen are Battlefield, Silver Nemesis and Dragonfire.

Quick rant: I've just gotten back from a week's vacation in Florida, and I couldn't help but notice in an fye store that North America has the entire Key to Time saga on DVD and we Brits don't. The swines! :P
