HELP!!! What's the name of this lousy movie???

Postby Jinzo Ningen » Thu May 11, 2006 1:39 pm

I recently picked up the re-stored edition of Journey to The Center of The Earth. The scenes with the iguanas wearing rubber fins to portray Dimetrodons fanned a flicker of recognition in my aging brain. I have since been trying to remember another film which I only saw one time (I think) on a Saturday afternoon Creature Feature some 20 years ago.

I seem to recall it also dealt with a ragtag expedition investigating the insides of the Earth. Upon reaching their destination, the intrepid band of explorers are attacked by either puppet dinosaurs, or lizards in make-up. During, (or before or afterwards - I just can't remember), they witness a ferocious battle of the giants between two Kong-esque gorillas/monsters who were just guys in fur suits.

Maybe I'm remembering this thing all wrong, but does ANYONE out there recall having seen something resembling the above description? I would very much like to try and track it down for my collection of shlock cinema, but I need a title before I can begin my hunt. It was in color, but I'm not sure if it was originally an American or English production, or perhaps it may have been a foreign export (Italian?) that was dubbed. I'm sorry. I wish I could remember more, but that's it.

Any help would be enormously appreciated.

CHEERS!

No. I have "At The Earth's Core" (great film, by the way!) and that was all done using studio sets. The monster scenes I remember were shot on a rugged seashore cliff area, or a set that used more natural-looking daylight (which in itself is stupid, since it was supposed to be inside the Earth). I think the 'dinosaurs' attacked everyone first, and then after narrowly escaping that threat, the scientists had to avoid the giant gorillas battling each other to the death.

For some reason, I get a mental image of the monkey suits being about on par with the one used in A*P*E, which makes me cringe yet also makes me want to see the stupid thing even more!

Thanks for the feedback, though.

If it's any help, I don't remember any 'name' stars appearing in this film, which is why I was wondering if the thing wasn't an Italian-made '...Center of The Earth" rip-off.

Hmmmm...

According to a site called Celluloid Dinosaurs, there was a Mexican film made in 1966, the American title was "Adventure at the Center of the Earth." The note says apparently there were no dinosaurs in the Mexican version but asks if the American version differed. Maybe it was this Mexican film with added footage of the lizards, etc.?

Where Time Began!

Postby Jinzo Ningen » Sat May 13, 2006 12:22 am

I'm 99% certain that David's guess of "Where Time Began" is correct. I cut & pasted the title over to the IMDb and the info that came up included a copy of a theatrical poster.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075389/posters

It features two dinosaurs fighting, plus an ape (rip-off art from '33 Kong), and a couple of giant sea turtles, which I also now remember were in it.

Good work, David. And my thanks to everybody who took the time to chime in with a guess! Now if I can just track down a copy of the movie for myself, I'll be stylin' & profilin' !!!
