Gosh, I can't really think of any NA/western directors who have a genuine appreciation of Godzilla, like Peter Jackson has for King Kong or Tolkien's LOTR books.

Another great director I can think of is Guillermo Del Toro, director of Hellboy, and great horror films.
He LOVES monsters, and would do Godzilla great justice.

Most of the directors are somewhat good choices but I'm somewhat afraid they would not resist making a cheesy Godzilla movie. The only person I could think off who would make a serious Godzilla movie is none other than Spielberg.
