Heard today from a reliable source that the PS3 launch is definitely delayed. Need more time to build up a bigger yield of the Cell chips. May launch in Japan this summer with 1 million units, another million for the US in November, and Europe in March 2007. Other issue apparently is software... just not enough games would be ready for a "spring" launch.

I'll still get one, but awhile after the initial release to make sure it's not bombing like the Sega machines did. So I guess I'm off the hook until summer 2007!

If its true then atleast they're taking the precautions to having a successful launch. I think the failure of the 360 in Japan and the way MS has been handling the 360 here (It has gotten a bit better) doesn't have Sony worrying much at all. Plus PS2 sales were up 42% over the holiday season compared to last year while the Xbox dropped like 50 somethin......ya, not a great outing for the Xbox to end 2005, but I guess the 360 has shipped about 600,000 units since launch so thats good. I still plan on getting one

Eh, even if it is no big deal. Theyll just have more time to work on it and developers to make games. So the launch lineup should be good. Delayed tell 2007? thats ok in my book. Im perfectly happy with my ps2 right now and ill be playing plenty of rpgs the next year or two. DQVIII, Grandia III, Final Fantasy XII, and Rogue Galaxy should be coming. I still need to get a hdtv to take advantage of this anyways.

yeah, i don't think a delay will hurt sony much, at least not until microsoft gets their x360 manufacturing ramped up more.

Sony still says it's on track for a Spring 2006 release in Japan but IT could get pushed back till later.

'Tis Official, apparently (though I haven't seen the source article):

by Patrick Klepek, 03/14/2006

Sony has been anything but talkative these past few months regarding their plans for PlayStation 3. No one except Sony seemed to anticipate they'd continue to meet their projected spring release date in any territory, even Japan.

Today, Sony officially conceded defeat to the recent flurry of rumors and speculation, with Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun reporting the company has confirmed the machine has been pushed back until November.
