8th Man

Postby Gfan54 » Mon Nov 14, 2005 6:25 pm

I stopped by a local thrift store today just to see if I could find anything interesting (which does happen occasionally), and they had a VHS copy of a show called "8th Man" there. I've never seen the show before, but it looked like an older cartoon (it was in B&W), and even though I'm not an anime fan I wondered if I might find it fun to watch for the nostalgia part of it. Has anyone seen this show and would recommend it? I didn't buy it because I didn't know if it was any good or not, but if people on here think it would be worth the 2 or 3 bucks it would cost I might pick it up and give it a chance. Thanks!

I've never seen the show either, but I do recall it having a nice fan base. In fact, I even seem to remember a live action film in the 90's.

Ooo wow, it's a real shame no one is showing that on TV today. The show sounds like it would still be very popular.

The original GIGANTOR is now showing on the Cartoon Network... perhaps this bodes well for future screenings of Old Skool Anime?

ASTRO-BOY has been under meticulous reconstructed by The Right Stuf, who have already assembled an upcoming deluxe box set for KIMBA (there was a previous release by Rhino, that was not the complete series). There are some pretty amazing hurdles to overcome with the English version of the original ASTRO-BOY, especially since some episodes were ordered by NBC Films, and since Tezuka didn't like them (but went with them because NBC was co-producing the series at one point), so after the first broadcast, Tezuka had them destroyed! Another hurdle is that there is no good source for all of the English episodes, and much like early episodes of DOCTOR WHO, many of the episodes have come from private collections... this is especially problematic when there were 193 episodes produced altogether.
