Ahh, this is more like it! A big thanks to August for pulling this for me last week at Kinokuniya Books. Whereas I was a bit disappointed with the recent Toho SFX Monster Movie Chronicle, this book is a very satisfying "complete history" collection covering the 50 years. Tons of photos, many which August and I had never seen before (August mentioned that he believed it was edited by the same guy who does a number of these types of books for Shogakukan, and he's had exclusive access to these archives for some time).

It's a small sized book with only a few color sections, but I highly recommend this for your collection! Somewhat reminiscient of last year's from Casacra , but opposite of that pub in that it's light on text, heavy on pics.

As for "non-Godzilla" material, it also covers all of the other major Toho SF/F SFX films such as MYSTERIANS, MATANGO, WAR IN SPACE, LATITUDE ZERO, GORATH, BIOS, KKE, the MOTHRA films, YOG, GARGANTUAS, and so on. The only color photos are from GFW.


In comparison to "Kodansha's All Godzilla Complete Super-encyclopedia", that's a large format book almost all color, very similar in approach to Toho SFX films with an emphasis on Godzilla. As far as I can see, the former has more (but smaller) rarer images, but if you're into big and in color, you can't go wrong with the latter.
