well , i saw it really late last night and can't really remember much of it except for this scene:

that one pic is the strangest thing i've ever seen in an ultra show.

and now i'm awake enough to actually pay attention to it. so i'll get back to you on it later

I just got Ultraman Max Vol. 1 in the mail (eps 1-4). I thought they were great! Really fun, really entertaining, some nice kaiju fights. I still can't wait to see Takashi Miike's episodes (17 and 18.)- This show is great.

I agree totally, August! Even Godzilla is hard enough to find where I am, but I don't believe Ultraman has EVER made it to the UK before. Ultimately, I have to import everything. The price of the video/DVD, shipping, customs, etc, always make me rather skeptical, especially when I'm not really sure what to expect out of it. I bet if more toku was shown on TV on a regular basis, the fanbase would increase, at least slightly.

I never disliked Ultraman, I just never had the chance to be exposed to it. Given the chance to download a lot of the episodes, I'm now much happier about buying the R2 DVDs. Speaking of which, I just finished watching Vol.3 of the original ULTRAMAN. I'm totally AMAZED at the quality! Beats my old boots by FAR!
