@ryuuseipro:

Thanks a lot for the interesting info! It's quite difficult to find something about this movie (with the exception that it was released in Italy as IL RITORNO DI DIAVOLIK).

> Sonny Chiba starred, in case you didn't notice!

:oops: ... I totally missed it! I guess I was too impressed with all that weird stuff going on: I mean, the plush mutant actually shoots his henchmen whereto he wants to have 'em and they appear behind the explosions with that strange sound effect ... I just can't get over it. :lol:

@August:

More interesting information coming, thanks a lot! :) I was already wondering why they shot it in black & white. I think it would have looked great in color (judging from the cover of the DVD). Anyway, it's an amazingly action-packed and very entertaining movie full of wonderful things and leaving nothing left to be desired. (By the way, GOKE is one of my favorite Japanese movies, it's sad that it's not more popular.)

The "plush alien" is called Nazo... in Japanese, it means "Riddle" or "Mystery" -- so, he could be called "Mysterio" -- oops, with apologies to Stan Lee. Chiba is the hansome b*stard with the goatee, FYI. ;)

Oops, there goes my "plush alien", but thanks again! Once I knew that Chiba was in there, I tried to identify him, but I was a bit unsure at first because of the beard. Andrew Hughes, on the other side, was very easy to recognize! :)

i just got a copy of this with subs, and that just adds to the enjoyment. Golden Bat is just one of the most interesting heroes ever to be on the screen. some really cool effects are on display here as well, and very nice compositions.

"Ogooon Baaaa-to!"

The 1960s anime version:

Here's a modern Kamishibai (Street Storyteller) version of the original GOLDEN BAT story, "The Tale of Black Tiger". Notice the original character design, compared to the 1960s version:

The animated series was shown in Latin countries as FANTOMAS and in Europe as FANTAMAN (or was it the other way around?).
