Official Gamera 2006 Thread (may contain spoilers)

Spinning flame-jetted turtles, space birds being chopped up like bologna, kids in shorts screaming for help...the original Gamera series was a strange mix of wacky fun!! The 90's Gamera films set a standard that other kaiju films are measured against! Discuss Gamera films here!!

Back on topic with this a little bit; I've read that the new kaiju is named "Jidas" and allegedly has a head similar to Godzilla, but with a frill... sounds kinda like "Jiras" from Ultraman. An homage, perhaps? or just wishful thinking on behalf of the guy that reported it?

I'm curious to see how things will turn out as well. I'm trying to reserve judgement since all we've seen is a couple of on-set stills. I can however say that I am NOT a fan of the Showa Gamera series and it seems that this film is a step in that direction. There's no doubt that the film will appeal to Japanese children, but I'll still give it a chance. In all honesty, I'd be a lot more excited if this new film continued the trend that Kaneko started with his trilogy.

If its true then that will be everyones ( except me ) dream come true of Godzilla vs. Gamera, in a way. I hope it looks very original and not like Godzilla.

It's still early days for news and photos. I expect it to start picking up around the holidays.

After looking at Baby Gamera and reading the report...I will give this film a good chance. :D The design of little Gamera is indeed cute, which is why you have to feel something emotionally after seeing him hurt from trying to defend us. I admit a tear came to my eye from this, and a smile came to my face after seeing that Baby Gamera prop.

Design-wise, the details on the shell are sweet! I can only imagine what Gamera's adult form will look like. I guess I'll be getting this figure when Bandai makes them and the toys are shipped to America. Speaking of details, take notice of the green blood from Gamera's neck wound in the photos. Looks like they don't mind the monster bleeding from battle, please learn from this Toho.

While I'm not sure if this film will be good or not, waiting on special effects set shots and adult monster designs, I will give it a chance. Just wish they would change the title.

So I guess the music theme, monster screen time, Gamera's abilities, and FX shots are the only things that might still have people a little nervous.

Godbless and be cool!

Has it been confirmed at all that Gamera and Jidas are the only kaiju making an appearance in this movie (aside from a possible brief Gyaos cameo)?
