EDIT: Okay, so people don't approve of what I originally posted. Therefore, I would like to present some of the wit and wisdom (and weirdness) of Gamera 3's Kurata Shinya:

Kurata: "Humanity is plodding on towards its own extinction. Even without the Gyaos. But there could be a worse future for the Earth than our own extinction. My idea, and the idea of whatever spawned the Gyaos, is that a monster could lower the curtain before that future comes. So if Gamera tries to stop it, it'll smash him even if he is an Earth Spirit."
Asagi: "The Gyaos can't lower any curtain."
Kurata: "Not the Gyaos, a new creature. One already in place, or one that can evolve itself. A creature that can, just as Gamera once did, join with a human being to make itself stronger. One that can fuse with this girl to overcome Gamera. A cute little thing like this is harbouring a demon! Gamera can't win."

Would I rather have had Kaneko commentary than Lake Texarkana Gamera? Hell yes! Did I laugh at it anyway? Hell yes! It's a monster movie, not a family member. You might as well get upset at the many Star Wars spoofs out there, despite the fact that they were done for love of Star Wars, not a desire to "bring it down."

ah yes, but you'll notice none of the parodies were on the SW discs themselves. and many of them are usually funny for about 3 minutes before becoming tedious. Texarkana Gamera can't even make 3 minutes of humor. it's the whole "rubber suited monsters are easy targets". perhaps if it was actually funny, like WHAT'S UP TIGER LILY is funny, it would be easier to take.
