Can anyone tell me what its like. I've been thinking about getting it. How would you rate it?

it's great fun. i'd rate it easily over any giant ape movie (with the obvious exception of the O'Brien movies)- it's nearly as good as KING KONG VS GODZILLA. way better than kino or Konga, that's for sure.
i mean, you have a giant ape, a metal ape and Gorosaurus. what more could you want? and one of the most memorable villains in genre filmdom, Dr. Who!

Alright sounds great! I kind of held off on getting it cuz alot of people were saying it was stupid. But it looks pretty good from what I've been reading.

Yeah, it's awesome! I would recommend both the original and American versions. Our version has a few character development moments, faster pace, and some scenes that didn't make it into the original.

The Japanese version has a few cut scenes from the American version and is widescreen!

I'd recommend getting both version, but there are no legal versions(sense Universal won't lift a finger to release this). So I can't recommend any place, but Musuko-Goji or Megaloman can help you.

well, heck, i'd wait a little bit (patience is a virtue) since i'd be willing to be it gets a DVD release before Jackson's remake hits the theaters. i was about to call it a needless remake, but upon reflection if this new Kong movie gets us some nice DVDs, letterboxed KING KONG VS GODZILLA and KING KONG ESCAPES AND the too cool for words 60s cartoon, well, more power to Peter Jackson.
not to mention the original movie on DVD as well.

KKE is one of my favorite kaiju flicks of all time; absolutely great! I've got a fullscreen, dubbed version off the Sci-Fi channel, and Toho's fantastic R2 disc.

I can see Universal going two ways about releasing this on DVD in the wake of PJ's upcoming remake: either they'll want to make some fast $$ and release it, or they'll not want to invite any kind of comparison and sit on it. I certainly hope it's the former, and if any other studio owned the rights here in the states it would be.

But I'm concerned that no release has been announced (or even rumored) yet, seeing how we're less than 6 mo.s away from PJ's Kong being released. The upcoming release of the animated series on disc has been known for some time now.

I doubt Universal will sit on the Toho Kong films since last year they struck a new 35mm print of KING KONG VS GODZILLA, and this year made an original KING KONG ESCAPES print available for the "Japanese Giant Monsters Festival" in Hollywood.
