Technically, PC games have been running at HD resolutions and frame rates for years, Taku. Consoles have been able to get away with less because of the limits of a SD TV display. I haven't seen this E3 new console footage, but they'll have to be pretty stunning to top what I've seen behind closed doors at a certain CPU company. The combination of dual core processors and GPU has barely been tapped.

Having said that, I'm more of a console gamer myself. I like my couch, I like my controller, and I like to get away from my PC.

A different POV of "Select titles" may just be quoted from Gamespot

"However, it could also simply mean that Microsoft is merely being prudent in case some original Xbox titles don't work on the 360, as was the case with some older PlayStation 1 games and the PlayStation 2."

according to this article, current-gen xbox games will have to be recompiled to run on the xbox 360? it seems a little uncertain since microsoft was unavailable for comment when the story ran.

the article speculates that this might mean gamers having to buy xbox 1 titles over again, recompiled for the 360, but i seriously doubt that microsoft would do that. if the article is correct, i could imagine a scenario where the recompiled game *engines* would be available for download over xbox live... and would run with the *data* that the gamer already owns on the original game. perhaps it would happen automatically when an xbox game is inserted (i.e. insert xbox1 game-- system notices, looks for "patch"/recompiled engine-- downloads and runs).

note that this is the only place i've seen this "recompile" mentioned. hopefully it's inaccurate.

I mentioned this last month, but the main snag for back-comp on the 360 is the fact that nVidia no longer works with MS, yet all Xbox 1 games require mandatory royalties to nVidia for the GPU chip they run on. Since 360 has no nVidia hardware, the only way to play XB1 games is to use software emulation. The 360 has the power to do that, but on a game-to-game basis like "Bleem!" did with PS1 games a few years ago on Dreamcast.

This means MS will only focus on XB1 games that MOST people would continue to play on 360 -- like Halo 2, Ninja Gaiden or Gotham 2 which remain popular on Live. No use investing in a software headache just to make sure a 20,000 unit seller like Arctic Thunder or Grabbed by the Ghoulies works on 360.
