Gamera Reborn for 2005?

Spinning flame-jetted turtles, space birds being chopped up like bologna, kids in shorts screaming for help...the original Gamera series was a strange mix of wacky fun!! The 90's Gamera films set a standard that other kaiju films are measured against! Discuss Gamera films here!!

So it's been confirmed? By whom, exactly?

G3 ended dramatically, and if they'd finished that little quarrel, there wouldn't have been any heroic effect to it. He's going out there, to possibly die, and finish the fight he started because it's his responsibility. THAT's heroic.

K-D have been pretty quiet with the press, but yesterday, I got to speak ith my informant again, and she says there's HEAVY movement at the K-D North offices, and teams of rigging crews are being sent to a stand-alone lot with Studio "G-7" being blocked off by security. According to several witnesses, several people with "(G-4)" (<<<that's how it looks) jackets have been spotted around the surrounding lot, and when asked, they just say "Can't tell." or "It's from the fan movie." Needless to say, she says that the amount of construction work going on there is interesting to note, because it can only mean that something big's being built there, and from what I know, Yokai War's already finished.

Regardless, the BIG news she could tell me is that she overheard something about a Daiei sketchbook containing the final concept art for G4. Though she's not 100% sure, my informant believes that sketchbook is the exact one she found in the office mailbox, which leads me to believe that this Gamera will battle the Gyaos legion and probably a new Gyaos-like monster, though she believes the "new" monster is Barugon, because it was used in Kadokawa's manga series as the main villain, so it'd make sense that it'd be used.

Now, a release date for the movie has yet to be named because the company wants to organize its' release schedule accordingly because of the belief that ULTRAMAN and FINAL WARS probably did poorly because of timing. That's what one of her colleagues in the legal department "thinks" is happening.

I told her about that "spoiler" link, and she says to brace yourselves, because that might be the final story, with some obvious things taken out, like the DNA/science bit and the atlantean reference. If by some chance, the director(they don't know who he is, though people who've "claimed to've seen him" say he's a fresh director with experience and he's young.....? :? ) doesn't like the way the script goes, another monster will be used.....Which is pretty pointless, as they'd be wasting valuable film.

Well, that's about all she told me about "G4", which she thinks won't be the actual name but something along the lines of "Gamera:Rebirth/The Awakening" as she heard it from someone who heard someone from legal department say..... :?:

SO remember - UNTIL K-D announces G4, take anything I report as a grain of salt.

Well, I hope this "G4" esablishes a new sort of style and identity to set itself apart from the old trilogy. If this entry is succesful, maybe a whole new trilogy could be created. Continuing from where G3 left off shows to me a lack of temperance on the part of the producers; it seems they just can't control themselves... they just had to make a G4 and not something more fresh and original. Oh well, it should be interesting to see how the story is continued. I hope we get to see Gamera and the JSDF battle the Gyaos swarm. Those would be some absolutely epic kaiju scenes if done right. I really hope Barugon is the new monster, and if he is, I hope they use that badass design from the manga!

Plus, I don't know about anybody else, but I'm kind of happy we're getting a different director than Kaneko. I've been getting kind of bored with his style lately. The only kaiju film of his that I absolutely loved was G3, which had me on a one-track mind when I was anticipating its release (I recall watching online trailers in computer labs at high school, and later on in class when I wrote my name on my paper, I put "Gamera" instead. Luckily I realized my mistake and erased it before turning it in. How embarassing!), and which blew me away when I finally saw it. Now, however, I'm sort of bored by it. I was never really as impressed as others were with GOTU and G2, although I have recently attained a newfound appreciation for GOTU. GMK, as well, was only so-so. It was better than GXM, but it wasn't the best Godzilla movie ever. I think cultural differences may be to blame for my limited enjoyment of GMK; it's a film that caters to an audience raised in a Japanese cultre. Still, I think pacing has something to do with it as well. In all of Kaneko's films I found the pacing to slow down a lot. In GMK, for instance, it kept cutting back to the JSDF sitting in their little base, wondering what they should do, which was boring. Remember when Baragon is trampling around, and all of a sudden whe cut to a goverment breifing, and then to a boat in a calm harbor? It sort of killed the excitement of seeing Baragon appear. Granted that sequence is where Godzilla makes his grand appearance, but as soon as he does, we jump to somewhere else again.

I went off on a tangent a little... I hope this new director is good.
