What the heck are these?

I managed to pick up the ebirah one in Japan. However, I don't know what they are supposed to be! Are they supposed to be electronic or something? Because when I built it I discovered it was not run by batteries or motors at all.

I'm confused!

These are mini reproductions of old Marusan B/O kits (ala Iwakura mini Bullmarks). They come with the reproduction of the control box, but they don't actually work.

These are miniature re-productions of the original Marusan models. The original models were remote controlled, so when the the miniatures were released, they included the wire and controller so that they would be exact(albiet smaller) copies of the originals. I really wanted to pick this set up, but my finances went south and Collectors Edge never contacted me about when these were going to be available, which, given my current state was probably a blessing in disguise...
