Thanks John. At least the "right people get it" (see, mistake 3000 does come in useful!).
And this hardly "angers" me. Of course, you could ask jfp what happens when you really anger me...

Mistake 3,000 ? Megalo, leave those poor MSTies alone ! :P

And for the record, the MST3K version of Megalon increases the fun I have with the film. :)

JFP... I miss that guy.

Actually, Gardner got slugged after he handed his ring to Beetle and charged the Dark Knight. If Batman were to even try that now, he'd break every bone in his hand. Guys'new powers are awesome.

Look at it this way. Tanaka always contended that Godzilla was supposed to be menacing, yet lovable. That was his one cardinal rule. So, what was popular at the time? Superheroes. So he said "Why not pair Godzilla with a superhero and make him a lovable defender of Earth?" They had already tried the menacing angle. Why not? In retrospect, it was a pretty logical choice to make Godzilla as he was in Godzilla vs. Megalon. It just turned out to be a big mistake, financially.

Now, I'm not saying that the movie doesn't hold any weight with me. This had to be one of the top five most-watched Godzilla movies in my house-hold at one time. I saw this before I saw any of the Heisei movies (unless you count G'85), and although it's not a very good movie, I still enjoy it far more than most people my age do. It has that extra flair of sentimentality for me, I guess you could say.

Ah, 'Godzilla vs. Megalon'...despite being considered one of the poorest entries in the G series, it sure gets alot of attention - and a fair bit of it tends to be positive! I gotta say I love this flick, altough that wasn't the case when I first saw it. Now I didn't loathe it the way some fans do, but I was somewhat disappointed with the flick - the cool Ifukube music was gone, Godzilla didn't seem as mean as before, and that kid's voice got on my nerves somethin' fierce. Gigan, Megalon and Jet Jaguar were damn cool though, if a little outlandish. Still, it was fun to watch.
But then I saw Ultraman, and my opinion of 'Megalon' and the other '70s flicks changed considerably. Now I saw what influenced G's heroic side. After watching Ultraman, then Kamen Rider, Giant Robo, Spectreman and many others I grew to love the '70s G films, since they were so similar to those cool shows.
Now I can't get enough of Superhero shows and giant robot cartoons - and I can't get enough of Godzilla. (and Gamera too)
Personally, I like all of Godzilla's character traits - from vengeful destroyer, force of nature, loving parent to noble defender of Japan. It's all good.
G's heroic nature is just one aspect of his character, making him a multifaceted monster, and not some one-dimensional city-stomping killing machine.
It's just as well G has so many cool elements, since there's sometihng for everyone in there. Wouldn't it be dull if G were portrayed the same way in all the films? I'd think so.

I'm probably a rare G-fan who likes ALL the Godzilla movies. I can honestly say that GOJIRA TAI MEGARO is a film that I do not despise. I see it for what it is: a Godzilla film that makes do with its low, low budget and shooting schedule. For me, it is a film that is a nice way to kill 90 minutes on a rainy/snowy day. Also, is it me, or does anyone else in the world think Riichiro Manabe is an unfairly maligned composer. Sure, his scores are not on the epic level of Maestro Akira Ifukube, but they do have their charm. I look forward to further discussion.

DADA for now....

I think GvsMegalon was one of the worst G films ever and the lowpoint of the series. Nevertheless, it's one of the films I have the most fond memories of because it was the first G film I ever saw and it's what got me hooked, so there will always be a place in my heart for GvsMegalon. 8-)

Yes, you are right. It does rule. Its got 4 big guys and one is a Robot. Also one of the best fights and fight moves. Big G Flying kick. What more can you ask for. Do not say, God this move sucks cause its so low budget, think cool, look what they did with such a low budget, its awesome. Don't ask why or how. Just sit down and enjoy the movie. Its great.

Godzilla vs. Megalon is guilty pleasure! Seriously, if you watch a kaiju films to be entertained, this will surly do so!. I never understood why so many people hated it if you ask me. I mean sure Godzilla is suppose to be a bad-like monster, but he will always be my hero!.
