Despite? hee hee! Same actor stars in Goliathon as in Infra-man.
if you want more Chinese monsters, check out: THE FAIRY AND THE DEVIL, NA CHA THE GREAT, MONKEY GOES WEST and an oddity i can't find much about, PEACOCK PRINCE, which is NOT the Yuen Biao movie- it's got a lot of monsters in it (human sized, though).

Actually, it's a Chinese take of the Henshin genre (transforming superheroes) and is greatly influenced by shows like Ultraman and Kamen Rider. And I looooooove it! :Big-th-up:

It's the Shaw Brother's version of King Kong. Though there is some cheesy stuff in it, I wouldn't say it's your typical "so bad it's good" movie.

Known as Infra Superman in Germany ...

In many ways, The Super Inframan (known only as Infra-Man in the US) surpasses its Japanese sources! The wild kung fu being a main example.

I agree, totally! And in a lot of ways, I think it's totally on par, or in some cases, even better than a lot of what Toho was producing at the same point in time with their Godzilla series.

As for "Mighty Peking Man", now I'm even more curious.

I wouldn't compare it to the Godzilla series, because we're talking about two very different genres here. Super Inframan is not a Kaiju Eiga, however, I think it's one of the best and most entertaining superhero movies of all time.

i first saw inframan as a kid, in the theatre. i was blown away.

i've since seen it on video, and i still love it, but i need to see the DVD, which is widescreen, unlike the crappy VHS i watched.

Another big thumbs up for Inframan here!

I remember trying to watch the VHS back in the 80's, and it wasn't even panned & scanned, it was just the middle of the 2.35:1 image! Needless to say, it was unwatchable.

Just got the widescreen, anamorphic, R3 DVD a month or so ago and it is very highly recommended. Fun movie!

Mighty Peking Man on the other hand, ain't great. Saw it a while ago and was unimpressed (wasn't even fun in a cheesy way). Would be willing to give it another chance, however.
