this is what we looked forward to, and we loved it!

http://www.dvddrive-in.com/TV%20Guide/430movielogo.htm

no worries about HD-tv, 5.1 sound, widescreen presentation, we just were happy to see the movies. it makes me appreciate any type of home video at all, when we used to have 11 minute 8mm comps to watch (and those were $9.95!).

anyone else have "monster weeks" in their area?

David

I remember back in Topeka Ks. one of the Kansas City stations used to have a week of monster films once a year that they called "Screaming Meemies Week". Usually they would show at least two Kaiju flicks, and one blessed year, the whole week was nothing but Godzilla and Gamera. In fact, the Gamera films they showed were uncut(Guiron dicing Space Gyoas is one scene in particular I remember still being in the movie.) As a matter of fact, I still have many of the original T.V. Guide ads from when these were shown. Ahhhh....the memories...

We had a statioon years ago that did the giant monster movie week about once a year for a couple of years. They mainly shold Godzilla movies durning that time. Usually to see another type of kaiju I had to wait for the old weekend movie show, with the required horror host of course, or the late night movie. Too bad those days are long gone

In Detroit, the local ABC affiliate had their own local version of the 4:30 Movie, and we would get "Monster Week" maybe twice a year or so, with Godzilla and Gamera movies. I used to eagerly check the TV Guide every week to see if it was time for "Monster Week" yet, and cut out the little photos of the monsters used in the ads.

Yep, these youngsters don't know what they missed! Chiller Theater, The Million Dollar Movie, The 3:30 or 4:30 movie, etc. and even in prime time at 8:00 they would be showing monster movies and sometimes the same one for a couple of nights! Here in So. Cal. it was KTLA, Channel 5 and KHJ Channel 9 that were the kings!

T.V. Guide scanning was a requirement back then! :D

That’s a great story Green Dragon.

With the grandparents, I actually consider myself quite lucky, because my grandmother would always let me watch monster movies (if they were on) when I was at her place. In fact, the first Godzilla movie I ever saw from beginning to end, I saw it at my grandmother’s house. It was “Monster Zeroâ€

COOL!!!!!! I remember those days. We got WPIX out of NY, here in Rochester back in the early 80s. I remember the movies after the cartoons, after school. I saw a lot of great films that way. Lots of Toho stuff and Goji.

I also remember that during the holiday school vacations there would be monster movies on. Day after Thanksgiving and Christmas break and stuff.

I think you're referring to Der Phantastische Film which was on ZDF every Friday night. I almost never missed it and I loved it! :Big-th-up:
