Guys, I've heard some bad things about this movie.

The movie itself it great, but like Nippon said, it's doing real bad in Japanese theaters.

Here's what my informant had to tell me about it:

THE CONS:
- The theater wasn't completely full. Only halfway. that only happens weeks afterwards but this happened on a weekend........
- Children thought the movie was boring at times.
- Some theaters in the Tokai district have taken it off their showings.
- Some theaters in downtown Tokyo have shortened showtimes.
- It's not even in the top 10.
- People seem to think it's just another Ultraman movie, like past incarnations, so it's not taken seriously($#!@ you Ultraman Cosmos!!!! :x :!: )
- It's not "as fun as Godzilla Final Wars"
- Most people'd rather see it on DVD.
- Short Movie.
- Seems it's a one-movie deal.
- Kids want to see "Howl's Moving Castle" more than once.

THE PROS
- The movie itself was awesome.
- The actors put on their best performances.
- The suitmation wasn't as obvious, but noticable.
- The special effects were redone and look gorgeous on screen. Of course, some better than others.
- More hardcore and story-driven than FINAL WARS. Very professional and dramatic.
- ***SPOILER(I think..)***It's left open for a sequel.... :D
- The stars have agreed to return, if needed, for a second movie.
- The soundtrack was really good.

I honestly hope the Cons don't help Tsuburaya's judgiment in bringing it over here. I honestly think it'll be here - there's no way it'll miss an international release....I think.

^^The MAIN reason I blame Ultraman Cosmos. From what I could understand and see, the lead was too darn wacky for his own good(when he "imagined" that he was Ultraman and he was beating up the monster and was snapped back to reality when they called his name)

The entire first half of the movie is spent watching the do-gooder squad attempt to play off his(the leader's) imaturity and lack of self-confidence whenever a villain is on-screen.

Don't get me wrong- Ultraman is based on the principle that a loner is given the task of playing host to the Ultraman in order to battle the evil hordes of monsters, but from what I saw in COSMOS 2, it wasn't well placed.

The intro does a good job of getting you into the movie, but the whole Atlantis thing sort of dies mid way through it.

In my view, it's movies like COSMOS 2 and King's Jubilee that've lowered people's expectations of Ultraman.

It's a shame that the series gets a 21st Century adult push and almost no one notices it....Maybe fans of the old series, but none of the "new age teenie boppers" that inhabit Japan's movie theater districts now.

That too....Like one of the cons say: "Kids want to see Howl's Moving Castle more than once."

I really have to see this movie to understand what the deal is. From the trailers, I can tell it's pretty magical, but I still don't get the vibe I got from "Spirited Away" or "Polar Express"....

Believe it or not, FINAL WARS is still on the top 10 list, though barely holding on....ironic, isn't it?

So what about ULTRAMAN TIGA, ULTRAMAN DYNA or ULTRAMAN GAIA? I am asking this, because I am not an Ultraman expert. I have the two DVDs released by Image Entertainment (TIGA & DYNA and GAIA) and I must say that I was quite disappointed. The movies seemed slow paced and childish to me. Are the last two COSMOS movies really so much worse? Judging by what I have seen (which is not much) I have the feeling that all of these series are somewhat flat and childish. :dunno: I just recently began to collect ULTRAMAN, ULTRASEVEN, and ULTRAMAN JACK ... uhm ... they seem to be very different. Are there any newer series which "feel" like those classic ones?

The current series....nope. None.

I saw COSMOS and COSMOS 2, then King's Jubilee...and I was thoroughly disappointed. They were too childish. Maybe that's who they aimed for - The children.

Nexus is almost like a soap opera(novela) in comparison.

"It is currently being distributed to wordwide distributors as Ultraman: the next"

Does this mean we actually have some hope of getting an R1 release???

[quote="someone from another board quoting someone at anotherboard said"]As the ULTRAMAN 2 movie begins shooting in March, we may as well start talking about it.

First, some facts. People who saw the first ULTRAMAN movie reported that at the end there was an announcement saying something like “ULTRAMAN 2 REQUIEM: 2005 Winter Roadshowâ€
