gamera vs barugon question.

Spinning flame-jetted turtles, space birds being chopped up like bologna, kids in shorts screaming for help...the original Gamera series was a strange mix of wacky fun!! The 90's Gamera films set a standard that other kaiju films are measured against! Discuss Gamera films here!!

Like I said, I know that KAIJU DAISENSO is set in "196X"... that's the fact that I also accept. The film is indeed set in "196X", books that perpetuate "198X" are wrong. I merely pointed out, to back up your argument, that Toho contradicts itself when it comes to continuity. This causes confusion among fans. As you said, and I agree, that there is no strict continuity in the Showa series. I don't know how you think that I believe otherwise, despite my posts to the contrary. We agree on this point, and the 196X vs. 198X debate.

As for the ZONE issue... you said that my translations were wrong. They are not. It doesn't matter that it was "way back there... I can't be tripped up by stuff that happened weeks ago," when in the very next sentence you state, "I've been fighting against this 198X rumor for who knows how long."

That's the same argument. You can't get "The Arrival of King Ghidorah" from "Kingugidora-o Mukae Ute!" [Blast King Ghidorah at Point Blank!]; "Arrival" would be "Shugen", "Arawaru", etc. Apparently, you got "The Arrival of King Ghidorah" from Steve Ryfle's book, which apparently used my ZONE episode guide from Ultra Fan #1, reprinted from Damon Foster's article in an issue of Oriental Cinema. Somewhere along the line, this mistake was made by someone, and since my original hand-written notes from 1985/1986 contains the accurate title for Episode 5, it was not on my end.

I'm not pretending to know you, but you were extremely accusatory on this point, and you were mistaken (taking the information in Ryfle's book as Gospel). That's not your fault. We expect a great book like Ryfle's to be accurate. We all make mistakes. But, when I provided solid evidence that backed up my translations, you failed to respond or present evidence that was contradictory to mine. This was especially dissapointing since you were the one who initially nitpicked my translations with incorrect information. Your lack of response smacked of sour grapes. But, I guess that's your business.

For the record, the episodes with King Ghidorah are Episode 5: BLAST KING GHIDORAH AT POINT BLANK [RANGE]! (Kingugidora-o Mukae Ute!) and Episode 6: KING GHIDORAH STRIKES BACK! (Kingugidora-no Gyakushu!). You can verify these from screen caps on James Ballard's Tokyo Monsters site. If you can present information to the contrary, I'd be interested in seeing it.

Any further discussion on either matter should be moved to the Showa forum. Let's get back on topic before this thread is shut down as Legion79 warns. Sorry to all for the digression.
