Gamera Reborn for 2005?

Spinning flame-jetted turtles, space birds being chopped up like bologna, kids in shorts screaming for help...the original Gamera series was a strange mix of wacky fun!! The 90's Gamera films set a standard that other kaiju films are measured against! Discuss Gamera films here!!

I'm not opposed to the idea of Kaneko coming back for another Gamera flick, but I don't hold the view that he's the only director who can make a good monster movie. To be honest, I'm getting tired of people going on and on about it as well. It's always "Kaneko's the only one who should make these movies", "everything should be just like the Gamera trilogy", or " It has to continue on where Gamera 3 left off".
If Kaneko wants to make another one, more power to 'im - I'd still like to see it. But I'd be more interested in another director's take on the big turtle. I'd be curious to see what Keita Amemiya could do with him, for instance. Ever see Mikazuki? I'd love to see Gamera (or Godzilla, for that matter) done like that.

Yeah I do agree. Kaneko is a good director but I don't understand all the hype about Gamera I II and III and also Godzilla, Giant Monsters all out Attack. I think for some reason people are over rating these movies. I seen all of them. The effects are nice and all. Nice minatures and things like that. But still, maybe its me. :o
If they do make a new Gamera movie, get ready for more Bandai figures :D

I hope this G4 "rumor" turns out to be true, although I'm surprised we've heard nothing about a film going into production to this point. It'll be nice to have the big turtle back after a brief absence, and nice to have some kaiju films to look forward to during Godzilla's hiatus.

As for who should direct, let's try to keep our minds open. Kaneko would do a fine job, as he has in the past, but he isn't the only director out there who could handle the assignment. If you hated GFW (or are just assuming you'll hate it, based on what others say  ), that still doesn't mean that getting a new director for Gamera automatically means a turn for the worse. Kitamura is one guy with one vision for a kaiju film - there are a lot of directors and aspiring directors in Japan who undoubtedly have a different idea of how such films should be handled. Personally, I loved GFW and wouldn't mind that approach to GAMERA 4, just to shake things up. But I'll be happy with a straightforward continuation of the Heisei Gamera trilogy, too.

One thing that I fear is certain - because of the reverence (deserved or undeserved) for G3, there will be some in the fan community who, no matter how good it is, will be disappointed with G4.

From a source who I have complete trust in... Yes, there will be a new Gamera film, no, Kaneko will not be directing, in fact my understanding is that it will be a completely new crew. As for the cast, some familiar faces will be returning(as to who, I don't know.) And for the story, this will be new and not a continuation of the trilogy. Hope this gets everyones mouths watering in anticipation, and in case my "source" see's this, thanks for the info, I hope it was okay to pass this news along. New Gamera, people! Yayyyy!

Any news on if where getting new kaiju or an update of an old kaiju. I think that Gyaos shouldn't be invovled unless it's a sequel to Gamera 3 which was already said it's not happening.
