Okay, I got that godforsakenly huge box in that I mentioned in another thread, so now it's time for the little reviews and runthroughs of everything. Deep breath. I'm saving Bandai for last because that's what everyone cares about.
Marmit
What I really want to know is why it's so damned hard for a manufacturer to make a decent SpaceGodzilla? I mean, Bandai did , but a full sized figure? , really. The Marmit figure is awful, but in it's own special way. He looks like a SD toy with a shocked expression on his face. Too bad.
I thought this was an MH figure, but it's not. Instead it's a part of that new medium scaled series, which is a bad sign. It's a great looking figure from the front and 3/4 view. Turn it to a profile though, and it looks a lot more like those nasty recent Marusan Godzilla releases. Ugh. Still, probably the best Godzilla '84 out there, at least until the Commemorative Box comes out next month.
Speaking of Marusan, they released a Hedorah, and I actually like it.

The sculpt is a tad crude (pun intended), but the overall effect is just fine. It's just a more viscous Hedorah than the rest. I do like the choice of mold color, a deep red, and the paint scheme, which is this weird greenish gray color. The overall effect is a lot like an oilslick or something. A good figure overall.
M1 and
These two figures were released at the most recent World Character Con, and are Bullmark reissues, but ones I was really looking forward to. The Megalon, simply becuase it'll be a while before I own an original, so it's nice to see. It's molded in, basically, pink, and has silver wings.
The Hedorah I was really looking forward to because it replicates the painted proto of the Bullmark as shown in the recent BULLMARK STORY hardcover book (which also featured a glow-in-the-dark Hedorah mailaway...). The figure is molded in beige and painted black, with sprayed on silver, gold, and metallic red highlights. The Bulmark Hedorah is my favorite mold, and the more of him I have the better. This is like my third one (1 Bullmark, 2 M1s).
The one bummer is that they're not the usual thick vinyl M1 is known for, but a much softer material. Pity.
Iwakura Bullmark 1
And speaking of Bullmark (nice lead-ins, yes?) I got the first Iwakura Bullmark set, which includes:Varan, Megalon, Godzilla (giant, with Tokyo Tower), Ghidorah, Baragon, Gorosaurus, Kameba, Ganime, Jet jaguar, and MechaGodzilla. Say what you want about the price or the exclusives and chase figures, but Iwakura knows even better than Bandai how to do a great candy set. These things are very close to being dead-on. The each come boxed, but also in a mini bag and header card, and are made of a very soft vinyl. Each toy also includes a small card specific to the figure, and features the number of the figure in the series, a comment on the figure, and other images and info.
I also got the Hyper Hobby glow Giant Godzilla that comes with the set, and it's really cool too, and excellently packaged. First in a larger Hyper Hobby cardboard box, then a box similar (but with some distinct differences) to the rest of the series. He also comes with a card, which is also different from the others in the series and includes a add for the upcoming second series, which I know I'M looking forward to.
Bandai
Finally, the Bandais, which to me are really only partially successful.
Monster X
Not bad. I give this figure some leeway because Bandai were only given drawings to work from, and in some (most) areas it's not very well detailed. Still, it's pretty dang accurate and will certainly stand out among the rest of a non-Ultra kaiju collection.
Very well done. My only gripe (a minor e) is that some of the body highlighting and contrast could be stronger. Very well done.
Well, he's a popsickle. Yep.
Nice! And it's not even translucent.

Much more subdued than the standard release. More sienna than umber, for you fellow artists out there.
Possibly better than the standard release, which I like a great deal. Also more subdued, this one is much darker than it's normal counterpart.
X-Seijin
Not a bad sculpt, but poorly articulated. I think Bandai only had drawings to go by for this one as well, and the image on the tag is a painting even. Still, I don't see all of the negativity towards it. Sure, it's more TV/Ultra looking, but maybe I like the occasional oddball in my collection.
Wow. THE figure to have. I have zero, nada, nothing bad to say about this figure. Somehow it was sculpted to look even bigger than it is. Great, with an excellent use of metallic blue spray.
Godzilla Chouzukan
This set is poorly thought out crap. I was looking forward to it too. The figures are the same size but less detailed than the from 2001, and the display box is WAY oversized for the figures. Make no mistake, you're paying more for packaging than toy here. And speaking of the box, the folding book idea is nice, and well done, but there's a whole outer-packaging over the box that DOESN'T FOLD. So you have to remove the slip-over if you choose to display/put away the set booked. A real disappointment. It could have been half the size, 3/4 the price, and better designed.
Godzilla Polystone Collection M-7, M-8
I was worried as soon as I found out Sakai wasn't doing these, as I LOVE his polystone work. These are kinda average. What's unforgivable about them is that they're twice the size of the earlier 6 Sakai ones, and have like half the detail. Reminds one of why Sakai is so awesome.
High Grade 11
What is there to say? They're HG figures so 99% of the time they're going to be better than 6 or 8 inch toys. So I'll just toss out a few interesting points.
Monster X is probably the weakest of the group. They even had to come up with a stand for him.
Kamakiras is in flying mode and has clear, open wings. Very cool.
Godzilla's miles better than last year's garbage release.
Gigan has the before-mentioned interchangable head and arms
Fire Mothra is very nice, with gold highlighting. The red's not as deep as it appears in most pics.
HG 2 & 11 Display Cards
Finally, I got the HG 2 and HG 11 machine display cards. The HG 2 card was in near-pristine condition, which says something with it being 9 years old, and now I only need HG1 to have all of the High Grade display cards. Whew!
