or rather, "Godzilla, Ebirah, Mothra: Big Duel in the South Seas" as it was subtitled. Screened tonight during the closing night of SFGfest and, again, such a clear, beautiful print that really opens ones eyes to the quality of this film. The script is pretty tight with tons of fun moments, the editing is excellent, and the "from all walks of life" audience really enjoyed it. I don't think I ever realized what a really well made costume that Ebirah was. The detail on the big screen was excellent. Akira Takarada as Yoshimura was great, and Kumi Mizuno was adorable (though not given as much to work with as her other SFX films). Love the music, especially Pair Bambi's Mothra song. The only negative IMO was that the Goji suit is a bit, erm, baggy.
This one has definitely been unfairly classified as a turkey. The DVD should be wonderful.
"Megalon" screened right after. Ick. Big screen and good print doesn't help that one. Funny thing is how it OPENS with practically the same set of footage that ENDED "Sea Monster"! I knew it was stock footage in Megalon, just never had it put in my face like that!
