CG is being used too much now - it's gotten to the point that nothing in the media is without CG.
Take for example, The Ninja Turtles.
It's a well-known fact that John Woo(who said he'd direct the movie after all of his current projects have finished) stated that the Turtles would be CG. Both he and the studio agree that it's the "best way to go".
Personally, I think the suits were realistic enough, and allowed the suit actor to move as freely as possible. Making a leap to CG would'nt feel right, and would totally crush anything Jim Henson put forth into their creation(He died during the filming of the second movie, BTW).
Now, take something like Jurassic Park, where suits, rigs, maquettes, and CG are blended into the scenery and perform really well together.
Then, there are movies where everything asks to be made in CG because there's no way something like it could be constructed in real life(or at least the company can't pay for it). Sometimes, the effect looks beyond amazing, while oftentimes, the effect is there, but it's lackluster....
Ultraman, Final Wars, and Tetsujin-28 are just some examples of fusing the real with the virtual to get a realistic experience, even if some parts aren't as detailed as others. Hopefully, the final product is entertaining and memorable enough to make any mistakes less noticable.
