I think the explosion was...well, actually, I have no idea. A plane crash maybe? I'd black out if I was a pilot flying over Siberia and suddenly saw Anguirus suddenly pop out of the ground.

Angilas doesn't pop out of the ground -- he's roaming around the wilds of Siberia. The explosion is caused by some sort of weird event -- there's a weird glow that eminates from inside of the mountain before it blows.

Perhaps the work of the aliens? Perhaps just an idea for a dramatic opening shot? Who knows?

Yay! I found my old VHS of GvsMG (and boy it's in horrible condition...time to replace) while cleaning my room, but yea...I see the snow now (it's a bit cheap looking but it's snow lol). Now I can sleep easy 2night lol

Well, I for one will defend the score for GvsMG. Sato's jazzy score since no one else will. It perfectly matched the fight in flow, suspense and was action oritened. a nice breath of fresh air after a lame sound track from vs Megalon, and a good alternative to Ifukube's slow battle themes. Ifukube's music would not match the fight IMO. Sato offered something new, and accoring to Toho was generally well accepted. If Ifukube was hired chances are he would just recycle his older themes.

The music played while MechaGodzilla was beating on Angilas was not impressive? Did you have the sound turned off? As well as the music playing when Godzilla rises from the water to face MG? Hardly boring music. Perhaps they didn't get a separate "theme"- I want to make sure I understand what you are saying.
