I actually caught the last half of GvMegalon that night by pure accident. It sure did look better, as everyone mentions. The cropped version available for sale not long ago was particularly bad; it makes the movie look 15 years older and far cheaper. SciFi is really bad with the amount of the commercials, I have to say; I've been away from tv for almost 6 years and it really seems they're a lot worse than I remember. I gave up on GvMG after the first battle; it was too late, and it was being stretched too long. Upon reflection, I think the P&S version of GvMG was actually done better than GvMegalon; it looks like on a few scenes, an actual attempt was made to shift the screen over to get the salient bits. They were helpless, obviously, for a good many scenes though, such as MG's blasting Godzilla and King Caesar simultaneously--proving that for this genre in particular, letterboxed is the only way to fly.
