Worst film from the Heisei era

Discuss the 2nd Godzilla film era here! Beam fights, revised versions of classic kaiju, the Heisei era was a mixed bag of fun and controversy!

I agree with Kedz. GvsMG'93 had a major overuse of beams in my mind. That, and the lack of any...even inkling of a complete script (Exposition as to why a big monster is following a little one in between random scenes of weak-ass action doesn't count as a script :P ) really diminished my enjoyment of this film.

^ Well, neither does a space monster coming to earth, fighting Godzilla "because they share DNA," beating him, leaving, and going to a city to sit on his butt until the final battle.

Yes, but SG didn't have this rushed feeling--When I was watching GvsMG, I felt like the movie itself was trying to push me along. The plot just goes by at this super-fast, ADHD-lightning speed that keeps me from enjoying the movie. GvsSG is like, "Just sit back, grab a cold drink, dim the lights, and just give in." Yeah, it's slow and a lot of it goes nowhere (Though this is more the result of crap-tastic editing than anything else), but so what? Those parts that "go nowhere" are at least fun individually, IMO. I know most people hate it and I can see why, but to me, it just feels more...there than GvsMG. GvsMG'93 is just uncomfortable, not even cold--because that at least is an emotion. GvsMG is as lifeless and robotic as Godzilla's nemesis in the film.

^ Again, I disagree. Its "relentless pace" to you is more like "Godzilla is actually IN most of the film" to me. GvsSG is a better "insomnia cure" for me than even Megalon. GvsMGII essentially started the current trend of having Godzilla pop up early and often, which is what the films need nowadays because the "slowly building up suspense" approach has now become overused and boring.

GvsMGII was also at least as emotional as GvsSG. There is clearly something at stake in the final battle of GvsMGII...Baby's life. Will he live with the humans who love him, or with a member of his own kind that can truly understand him? You don't know who will win, and you don't even really know who you want to win, as Godzilla is unapologetically destructive in this and the previous Heisei films. It was only emotionally topped by Godzilla vs. Destroyer.

Godzilla vs. Mothra

G vs. M left me bored and un-enthused. Godzilla is like a special guest star in that movie as he almost plays 2nd fiddle fighting with Battra off-screen for a good portion of the movie. In the mean time, we are force- fed a heaping helping of "save the earth" politics, divorce-court drama, and "Indiana Jones and the lost statue of somewhere in the Phillipines". On top of that, that asteroid that gets dropped on Earth, causes a typhoon, and the Ecological board sits in a big sports-book room muttering things about "we built the gun, the meteor just pulled the blah-blah, faw-faw...". Wasn't crazy about the "Cosmos" (huh?!), wasn't keen on the message (was the evil developer character ever dealt with after that "shame-shame" speech?). It just was all executed really badly IMO.

I sound like I just watched a Yahoo Serious movie, but for those of you who are fans of this, don't think I completely despise it. I like all G films....just some more than others... :D
