I also saw Final Wars at the Pickwick, and I really enjoyed the film. I've read reviews, so I knew exactly what Final Wars was, and I went into the theater expecting a fast paced film with Matrix fighting, a powerful Godzilla who quickly kills foes, and fast battles. Because I wasn't expecting a "normal" modern Godzilla film I really enjoyed it for what it was.
Sure it wasn't perfect, some of the CGI could have been better (Manda, the Mutant destroying the shield generator), the fast battles and city destruction scenes, and a long part of the movie with a lack of G action.
However, I really felt that it overcame those flaws. It had very fast pacing, the battles were good even if they were short, and I did enjoy the Matrix fighting because I was expecting it. I really loved the opening with scenes from different Toho films.
It wasn't the best G film ever, but it wasn't the worst film. I really enjoyed it, which is important to me. However, I do hope that future G Films go back to the traditional style, or go with a new style. I don't want all future G films to be like this one.
