The closest I can get to describing her is like a Japanese combo of Cyndi Lauper, Nina Hagen, and Bjork.

Got my first $50 Patreon supporter this morning. :-)

For supporting that amount, he got to choose a movie for me to review and wants me to do Gorgo. Never seen it.

Gorgo is pretty cool. It's unique in that it's basically a Japanese kaiju film made by and set in the U.K. The effects are pretty neat. I'd highly recommend getting the bluray if you can. It's clearly a labor of love and they did a really nice job restoring it, given the quality of the materials they had to work with.

Got a $500 pledge on our crowdfunding campaign last night!

Just gonna throw the link out there again, because I can.

^cool. Hope it does well for you.

So we used our tax return to get some home repairs done that we’ve been putting off for months and months. Had a troublesome water heater fixed yesterday and an issue with our AC zoning fixed today. But what really made my day was BOTH repairs ended up costing less than the original quotes!

I’ve been surprisingly happy with our various repair services around here. We have a neighborhood Facebook page that lots of people participate in and it seems to do a really good job keeping service companies honest. ‘Cause if someone gets screwed or gets the runaround, they immediately share it on Facebook and good luck to that company ever getting any more business in this (very large) subdivision...

It's quite nice when you are recognized for the hard work you do. Colorado Anime Fest was this past weekend and we were there as Press/Media again. During our time there, we have had people from three out of state conventions invite us to attend their con as Press/Media. One in Portland, one in Tennessee, and one in Ohio.

^Huh. Would one judge by consistency (in which case I'd say the MCU owns it), or by the heights of the highs (in which case I'd probably call it a tie between Star Wars and Alien)?

I mean, Star Wars was just too important in shaping my life for me not to give it that top spot. The only serious competition in that regard would be Godzilla, not featured among the options.

MCU vs. Jaws - MCU
Halloween vs. Fast and Furious - Halloween
Alien vs. Star Trek - Alien
F13 vs. Harry Potter - F13
Star Wars vs DCU - Star Wars
Chucky vs Mission Impossible - Chucky
Indy vs Rocky - Rocky
Elm Street vs Bond - Elm Street

Not much thought required on those for me...except Elm Street vs Bond. My tiebreaker there was that I don't own any Bond movies, despite really liking some.

MCU vs Halloween - MCU
Alien vs. F13 - Alien
Star Wars vs. Chucky - Chucky
Rocky vs. Elm Street - Rocky

MCU vs Halloween was tough for me...I basically ended up using consistency as the tiebreaker. Any random MCU movie vs any random Halloween movie...you could get some STINKERS in Halloween but only one or two real foul-ups in MCU.
Star Wars vs Chucky wasn't super easy, but the reality is of the past 6 Star Wars movies, I've only thought one was out-and-out GOOD all the way through, and Chucky has only let me down once.

MCU vs Alien - Alien
Chucky vs. Rocky - Rocky
Not much thought there, honestly. I really absolutely hated Alien Covenant and don't care about the series at all anymore, but way more and higher highs there.

Rocky vs Alien - Rocky

Rocky wins. Rocky wasn't really challenged much except in Indy vs. Rocky, honestly. Yeah, Rocky 5 is poop, but so is Crystal Skull, and I went with the overall ability of Rocky to just be super watchable in ANY of the other films at ANY given point in its run time.

This would have been a much harder bracket for me with Planet of the Apes, X-Men, and probably a few others (yeah, Godzilla, but then that PROBABLY would have just won, so...) instead of Harry Potter (never seen any), Jaws (only the first is any good), Fast and Furious (none that I find worthwhile), and Mission Impossible (I don't find these to be that special, personally).
Gills.

The end result is not a very accurate representation of my tastes though. I’ve never seen a F&F or Halloween movie in its entirety. It’s been years since I’ve seen an alien film (like, since I was a kid and caught them on network tv) but I still enjoy Star Trek from time to time. I went strictly with what I like best, not what is higher quality.

If it were more accurate, my actual top four would be (in order):
1. Star Wars/Godzilla (tie)
2. DCU (all of DC, not just the current films. though I do like them quite a lot, unlike most it seems)
3. Indiana Jones
4. MCU

There's only one bad Rocky movie, the rest are either good or stone-cold classics. Plus, I just have an enormous affection for the character and it's so rewarding to watch 'em in order (like how Rocky is hardly literate and forces himself to learn to read better in Rocky II, while as an old man in Creed he spends much of his free time reading).

Creed II next year (I think)!

R1:

MCU
Halloween
Alien
Friday the 13th

Star Wras
Chucky
Indiana Jones
James Bond

R2:

MCU
Alien

Star Wars
James Bond

R3:

MCU
James Bond

The last two is tough, but since I can get my spy/political thriller mix with Captain America and Black Panther, I'm going to go with the MCU.

I only had 3 people show up at my Ultraman panel today, which was a bummer, but two things really made my day.

1. I donated an extra Kickstarter Escaflowne poster to the charity auction and it blew the woman in charge's mind. She showed it off during opening ceremonies.

2. Rightstuf took an interest in wanting me to become part of their affiliate program today when I was talking to the guys at their table in the dealer's room.

Had my final thesis review over the weekend, and I have been approved for my MFA! I'm now qualified to teach film at the college/university level!

Afterward, had a combined thesis/birthday party, had some great friends over, and my wife (who also passed her thesis review!) made fantastic buffalo wings!
