Guys, I don't see the need in attacking me. I mean really? I'm only the messenger. I wasn't sure if this news was real or not and only inquired to find out for you guys so it didn't get out of hand and if the shirts had been fake no one would be swindeled into giving away their hard earned money. As I stated a contact that I have who has had plenty of communication with L.P. - Mr. Disgusting- the editor of Bloody-Disgusting and the guy who broke the original scoop on this film in the first place through his sources close to the project was at the event. I simply contacted him to inquire if it was legit. Now I only asked him "is this Godzilla design legit" as in from/for the film. He said he wasn't sure. That he'd inquire. Sometime later in the night/early morning he replied with "confirmed as NOT movie related".....Now we know otherwise. I dunno guys, perhaps there was some sort of confusion/miscommunication[with his sources]. The event is a HUGE and very hectic place and lots of things are taking place. He working for the no.# 1 horror site obviously is trying to catch as much stuff as he can from the countless films being repped there. I honestly can't say. I wasn't there. I'm just telling you exactly what I was told. Sorry about the delay in my response as I actually do have a day job.

UPDATE!!!! :

I had sent the image to my bud the editor at 'TwitchFilm' to see if he too could get official verification of it, as he too has a source very close to the production, and interestingly enough "TwitchFilm" is stating:

"I'm being told that while this image does indeed originate with Legendary Pictures it is NOT necessarily movie related. What else it could be I'm not sure and I have a very hard time imagining that they would release an image like this if they were doing anything significantly different with the movie designs, but there you have it."

I think everyone should take a breath and calm down. Keep in mind also that this is starting to look like (to me) a game of "Telephone", where a little something gets added each time a story is re-told. I've seen a mention of a video go from "short CG clip" to "teaser" to "trailer" in the past 24 hours, and I think we can agree that that is not the case.

Has anyone posted this yet?

Talking Dog President Rob Bryanton posts some background information about this marketing project on his own blog in response to questions he is getting:

http://imaginingthetenthdimension.blogs ... ojira.html

Key points:

- Legendary contacted Talking Dog to help promote the upcoming film for SDCC
- LP is "in the very first stages of production, so it's not like they could show us all clips from the movie or anything yet"
- The Godzilla design was by artist Jim Zubkavich of Udon Comics, working in consultation with Michael Jenson of LP
- The shirts were being distributed by LP at SDCC, not TD

Based on this, I think I understand what Avery and his contacts might be telling him, but this is just my interpretation: LP isn't ready to start full promo of Godzilla at Comic-Con, but they wanted to do someting. They've been working on AR-based film promotions with Talking Dog. They wanted to do something special for SDCC, so they did these shirts and the AR to create a bit of buzz. But the basis of the whole thing is rather "Godzilla generic", and no one seems to be indicating that it's at all reflective of actual pre-production work. It's just buzz for LP and Talking Dog and a bonus for the fans at the show.

Seems like a reasonable explanation to me. Yes, it's news, but I do think that the hunger for more news has many reading way too much into a t-shirt promotion.

I made a joke elsewhere that I was glad to see that the t-shirt is black because it means the film will be dark. At this point, it's all speculation and at the end of the day, it's just a t-shirt and some very early marketing.

So please, let's not start ripping each other over this, or it's going to be a very long two years.

The only thing I can think is that perhaps they are going to use various designs in promotion for the film and then settle on the fan favorite? Sounds like an ingenuis idea.....Hell, could be for video games, other merchandise, etc... Obviously it was part of L.P.'s Comic-Con event but that wouldn't absolutely gaurantee that it is from the film or the official design. This may all be viral to build up hype...a mystery as many films are using now to build up an audience...Ya know, keep em' guessing. Guys we still have nearly 2 years to go......The ride could be a fun and interesting one.
