I tend to think that this movie is severely over-rated, but it's also funny how much vitriol will get spit at someone prominent who didn't like the film. I haven't read his editorial since I haven't subscribed to GFAN...ever, but I can get why someone would be pissed that Takarada was cut when other scenes are retained. Assuming that it would have happened when Brody first went to Japan, why was a scene that was played for laughs (the father chastising his son in poor Japanese) retained while the cameo was cut? It's a possibility that the scene was totally botched, but it's frustrating that there wasn't retained and we only get a "well, I tried" remark from Gareth. Yes not everything is up to the Director of the film, but a lot of fans are willing to just shrug and say, "Oh well," while simultaneously getting more upset at people who are still bothered by it while excusing the film for not even including it as a special feature.
Seems to be in a similar vein as when Ryfle wrote that this Godzilla was white-washed only to have the discussion turn into why he was wrong instead of a critical eyed turned towards the new movie. The only "prominent" fan that I can really think of, off of the top of my head, who really liked the film a lot, was August Ragone.
