Rumours aside, I can see how Sony might want to revive their own Godzilla franchise as the whole franchise thing is big business these days if done right (ish) - there's the Harry Potter films, Pirates of the Caribbean, X-Men, Spiderman... all of which have either reached or are coming to the end of their respective runs. There's life to be had in Bond and Superman, but beyond that...

Godzilla is an attractive franchise - if it does was it says on the tin, as opposed to the misfiring GINO, a properly" done Godzilla (with a recognisable Godzilla) would offer the chance for plenty of "WOW" action, destruction, and maybe even give a director with a little more depth to play on the very topical fear of destruction being bought to out homes and cities.

I think if Sony were to start touting a new Godzilla movie around the VFX houses in Hollywood, they'd bite their hand off at the chance to make what, for many VFX firms, would be a showcase movie.

Played right, a new Godzilla film would be a win/win scenario and, hopefully, wipe clean the memory of D&Es calamity.

If done right.

Umm...If you thought "Ultraman" was goofy, then you really won't want to watch any Ultraman series, because the movie was aimed at an international audience(wonder why it was never widely released...?), thus, not meant to be goofy AT ALL.

I really hope the rumor's true, because like I've said before, TOHO and SONY can do business....I mean REAL business by mixing both worlds in one here. If they can get on the same page, this could be THE Godzilla movie for everyone.

BTW, I don't tink they'll bring anyone back that they're not supposed to, and I also think it's a few years too late to dish out the Godzilla 2 script(that evolved into "Godzilla X Megaguirus: The G-Extermination Initiative") and film that, though parts of it would help(the characterization elements of the main characters ,Godzilla himself ,and the new "Minilla"). So basically, revamp the original design to make him stand upright and look more like a hybrid of his japanese and american incarnations, than just an iguana with spikes running down his back. Heck, take it a step further - get STAN WINSTON.

Scan EVERY SINGLE maquette he ever made for the original G'98 and enhance and animate those suckers in CG.

Matthew Broderick hasn't done anything hugely noteworthy - neither have the rest of the stars there('cept Jean Reno - he's an international star, so he gets international A-List roles....He's the man, afterall! :P) I doubt they'd say no. Now, bring in Asian talent and you probably have something worth watching.

Who knows - maybe folks will take notice with the international cast?

One last thing - the advertising campaign better not be overkill - those massive posters kinda sucked. How about posters that actually give you reason to fear him, like "The king of the sea is watching you" with the big eyes staring at at a cruise ship from below the ocean.

We all did........buuuuuuuut.....Was it liked by everyone? Was it a summer blockbuster? Did he get anything out of it?(I mean come on, he left Hollywood for a little while for "The Producers" on Broadway!!!! How could he fail the on-screen role?)Actually, does he EVER get anything big? What roles is he known for aside from Ferris Bueller or General Grant in "Glory"?

I don't want to attack him because he's one of my favorite actors, but darn, I don't remember anything noteworthy coming from him in a long time. He might benefit from this movie IF it's a hit.

So might everyone else...'cept Reno. He'd reprise his role for the heck of it. :P

I read a draft for the original sequel idea and it wasn't very much like GxM at all... the only similarities were in the insect kaiju and a hive mentality isn't uncommon for insects so that part doesn't count much. Plus the ones in Godzilla 2 were more like termites, I thought.

And Ultraman the Next was goofy? ... where? Is it the old "looks like Power Rangers," standard? Because if you actually sit down and compare the two, they only kind of resemble each other... and Ultraman hasn't been ripped to shreds.
